(ahem, let's keep this high school only.)

Just a few that I can remember....

1994 - Gainesville vs Atlanta - Regional Semi-Finals - We got flat blown out in this game. It was so cold at Hanby Stadium in Mesquite!

2003 - Gainesville vs. Atlanta - Area Round

1974 - Gainesville vs. Cuero - State Championship Game
*I wasn't alive for this game but my parents were in high school then and I had an uncle that played on this team. Cuero won 19-7.

1989 - Gainesville vs. Navasota - State Semi-Finals - Boys Basketball
*We lost--badly.

2000 - Gainesville vs. Waco La Vega - Boys Basketball State Championship Game
*I played on this team. Playing in the Erwin Center and having George W. put a medal around your neck is really awesome! We didn't figure out La Vega's offense until it was too late to stop them. Man, I wish I could play this game over again.

2001 - Gainesville vs. Mexia - State Semi-Finals - Boys Basketball
*The Fantom Foul Call...

2001---S.F.A. (my school) vs. Garrison----b-ball playoffs--we lost 60-52. Down by 20 in the 2nd QTR, came back to tie it in the 2ndQTR b4 halftime.

2000 Liberty vs. Coldsprings....would of implemented a 2 minute offense sooner that we had

2000 Liberty vs. Lincoln.....not the smartest move as far as scheduling games...we got spanked 53-0 by a 28 member varsity team.....but i would like to see their showtime band..they were like 300 plus strong, and had rythym

2004 Liberty vs. Cleveland...there is always a fluke somehow in your season..that's this ones....

Basketball....

2000 Liberty vs. Hampshire Fannett...would of played our SG a little less in the third if i knew we had to go to triple overtime to play them and then lose....

1999 Liberty vs. Texas City....would of not submitted the players names to the officials before the game and cost us a free throw and then end of regulation, making us go into triple overtime to beat them

1999 Liberty vs. Crockett....would of played the game on friday instead of thursday like the crockett coach insisted on, because turns out their leading scorer would of become ineligible that frida

2003 Jasper vs. Burnet - We led 14-7 (I think this was the first time Burnet ever trailed in a game that season) and we lost in the last minute of the game...still a great game though...

2001- Ingleside football vs. Aransas Pass... The game that broke our season. Going into this one, we were undefeated in district and had already knocked off the district's second-toughest team. There was so much talent on that team it was ridiculous. Went into the game against an underacheiving Panther team and the rivalry came to life. AP hung right there with us through the whole game and were tied with us halfway through the fourth quarter. They drove the field late in the fourth and scored with about two or three minutes to play, giving them a 28-21 lead. But Ingleside came back. The Mustangs marched down the field and scored with time winding down, making it a 1-point ballgame. They decided to go for two on the extra point attempt, running a misdirection to the right side. The entire Panther offense bit to the left-- except for linebacker Leon Belfon. Our running back (who ran a 4.4 and was the second-fastest guy in the district) ran to the outside to try to beat Belfon to the goal line. Belfon met him right at the line, and managed to stop him just short of the conversion and the win. Ingleside lost 28-27 and fell apart after that, not even making the playoffs. If the Mustangs could've won one of their final three games (vs. AP, @ Mathis and @ Sinton) they would've been in the playoffs. But surprisingly, they lost to both AP and Mathis and Sinton (as expected) stomped them.

1998- Ingleside hoops vs. Burnet... Regional Semifinals
We won the game but lost one of our huge posts. He was something like 6-4 (I've had different friends tell me differing heights) and was more of a power forward who cleared the rest of the lane for our big boy in the middle. Joe (the 6-4 post) separated his shoulder in that game. We didn't have a backup that could fill his shoes, and in the Regional Final we looked confused and we played horribly. We only lost by a couple to Stafford in the Regional Final, but that's one of those big "ifs" that makes you wonder how far we would've gone that year.

Who knows, we might not have even won that game, but the question always lingers the back of your head.

This year, Jasper/Kirbyville. I don't think we gave 'em our best shot.

I wish we could do the Navasota-Caldwell game over. It was such an awesome game, but it just wasn't meant to be for us. I wish we could go back to that last play before we fumbled. Caldwell, good luck. Ill be there with some friends rooting for ya'll!

Oh, I've got one more-- 2002 girls hoops.

Ingleside vs. Llano 2002- Ingleside had an awesome girls team that year, one that had top-ranked and eventual State Champs Llano cornered through most of the game. But the Lady Stangs fell apart in the fourth quarter and allowed Llano to battle back. Ingleside and Perryton were the only teams to give Llano a run that year.

La Grange
11-17-2004, 09:14 PM
Last year La Grange vs. Marlin, and this year's entire season.

Last year agianst Marlin we gave up two plays on defense and both of those plays led to touchdowns. Other than those to plays their longest play was about 5 yards.

This years entire season was pathetic. We mustered around 10 points a game, and we gave up way to many. We were a team of players who thought the season was just going to fall into place without an ounce of work, and we paid for it.........2-8......pathetic.

1990 Olney vs. Howe (Area Play-off) We were up 10-3 in the fourth quarter. Howe scores a touchdown to make it 10-9, then we blocked the extra point, but our linebacker was offsides so they got to kick it again and tied it 10-10 and beat us on first downs. Penetrations were tied too.

2002 Decatur vs Sweetwater (Regional Finals)- 1 more yard and a healthy Dane

2003 Decatur vs Vernon- take away the wind

For the old days, Yes, absolutely: Jasper vs. WOS II.

and 1983 Jasper vs. FB Willowridge & Thurman Thomas. Jasper lost 6-10.

1984, Jasper vs. Tomball, lost 27-35 in a big shootout.

1987, Jasper & WOS, in district, lost 0-3 to kick by GS 17. :(

There are more, but those are "old time" Jasper teams that especially had the talent to win state and lost in close games.
