It's not just because I hate them, but OU does not belong that high. And neither does Texas.

OU will definately fall to 3 behind Auburn, or at least they should. I still believe in the playoff system over the BCS. (bull crap system)

How often does the best seed win in playoff systems???

not very often.. so wouldnt u think to get a true #1 vs. #2 game we need a system like the BCS

Keith a real playoff system like Division 2 and 3 college football would be much better!

I am not an OU fan but this would mean you think Utah would be above OU?:hand: or would that put OU at 3?

Bulldog_12

I dont like the BCS because people and computers pick who they THINK is the best team. If a playoff system were used, you would know who was the best because they had beaten all of the rest. It works in ALL other levels of football, why should D-1 football be any different? The only reason it is kept is because bowls bring in a lot of cash. Which I dont know why that would matter either because a playoff system could potentially generate just as much cash as they do.

Michigan lost to Notre Dame who isnt even ranked, OU hasnt lost to anybody so they deserve to be up there and so does USC and Auburn...

then Cal should be right behind because they are the onlyones to give USC a game....

if you want a true #1 vs. #2 championship game you HAVE to use the BCS or mis-matches will take place that might knock off teams or the #1 and #2 teams might end up playing in the 3rd round instead of the National Championship game.. Just think about it.. I'd like to have a playoff system too, but not because it would gurentee the best 2 teams make it, but because there would be more games that way...

Bulldog_12

We can sit and argue with who should be at the top all day. The fact of the matter is, you wouldnt know if Utah could beat Ou or Cal beat Auburn or so on and so forth, until they played each other. I think the playoff system would show just that. Then we could really find out if some of the bubble teams were good enough to make it into the top 6 even though they just aren't getting much love from the computer.

That is right Keith. If you take the top 16 teams for playoffs there still would be plenty of good teams left to have some good bowl games.

With your line of thinking there should not be a playoff system in Texas high school football if we want a true champ between the #1 and #2 teams.

I like the Div 1AA system, use the polls to seed the top 16 then 1 plays 16 and so on. once the playoffs start rankings mean nothing, it is survival of the fittest.

Buckeye80
11-15-2004, 04:07 PM
Look at it using this comparison:

Center beat Spring Hill 18-7
Spring Hill dominated Carthage 45-0

Therefore, Center should have annhilated Carthage right???

Well they got beat 28-26!!

What can we learn?

This year's football season (both College and High School) is extremely weird. Teams are winning and losing that shouldn't, so let's just see how it goes.

At the beginning of the season, I would've thought my Buckeyes would finish the regular season at 7-3 or 8-2. Who knew??

I thought my Aggies would be lucky to top last year's record. Again, who knew??

you are right.. if you want the top 2 teams from during the SEASON then there should never be any playoffs.. Everyone is arguing for wanting the top 2 teams to play in college football.. and if you truely want that, then the BCS is the best way to go

If USC plays Auburn or OU they will lose.

Bulldog_12
11-15-2004, 04:49 PM
I disagree Tiger. USC would probably crush OU and I think that if they played Auburn it would be a great game. I just don't think USC can be beat. I could be wrong, but they are an exceptionally good team.

Old Tiger
11-15-2004, 04:53 PM
USC doesn't play as good of competition in the Pac 10 as OU in the Big 12 and Auburn in the SEC. So that's why I think that. There is far better teams in the Big 12 and SEC than that of the Pac 10. Just what I think though.

Bulldog_12
11-15-2004, 04:57 PM
True, while there isnt the same kind of competition, I know for a fact that OU would get stomped because the past few teams have really exploited their weaknesses and I think that USC could REALLY exploit them. Auburn would probably have the best chance of beating USC. I just don't know, I have been very interested in USC since last year and they haven't disappointed me yet. They just seem very complete all around and don't see anyone beating them.

Keith7
11-15-2004, 05:00 PM
Cal would have a good chance at beating USC too.. remember they were at USC's 10 yard line at the end of the game, throwing into the endzone to win it as time expired

Old Tiger
11-15-2004, 05:10 PM
Cal and USC are the best teams in the Pac 10. The aggies opened the flood gates to OU's weaknesses. As for Auburn they got the Cadi...:D

Like we were talking about on another thread, if you take away USC's front four their defense is mediocre at best. Grotegood and Leach are the only other players really worth anything on that D. It was exposed against Rodgers once already... Jason White would shred it to pieces. What it boils down to is that Auburn is the only complete team in the nation this year. They may not go undefeated, but they're starting to remind me of Oklahoma of last year. These upcoming games, no matter who they wind up playing, are theirs to lose. There's nobody in the nation playing as well as them right now.

Utah and Boise State dont have a chance against any of the other major conference Top 10. Heck, put UT in Utah's conference and UT is #1 playing for a national title.

Quotes from the OSU vs. Texas game:

“We didn’t anticipate this would be the ‘Game of the Year.’ We haven’t seen anything close to this. Texas is everything we were told they were with its explosive offense. Their ability to come back is an added dimension we didn’t know about. That was more than almost any team in the country could overcome.” — Fiesta Bowl chairman Armando Flores

Quoted from Horns Illustated news letter (email)
Hope Mr. Flores liked what he saw in this weeks comeback Victory!
