Controversial US rapper Ol' Dirty Bastard dead at 35

LOS ANGELES (AFP) - US rapper Ol' Dirty Bastard, an eccentric founding member of the Wu-Tang Clan rap group, has died in his New York recording studio of unknown reasons, his record company said. He was 35.

Paramedics found the inovative hip-hop artist, whose real name was Russell Jones, dead in his Manhattan studio on Saturday and doctors are conducting an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Ol' Dirty Bastard, who also used the pseudonyms Dirt McGirt, Big Baby Jesus and Osiris, had a history of drug and alcohol abuse, and had problems with authorities which led to arrests.

ODB, as he was also known, left Wu-Tang Clan in the 1990's to pursue a solo career and released several rap hits known for their original lyrics, including "Got Your Money" and "Shimmy Shimmy Ya." He signed with the Roc-A-Fella label last year.

ODB, who had fathered 13 children, was to turn 36 on Monday.

1st. Dude had problems, but was a good artist... figured he would want to keep straight with a career.

2nd. His legacy as part of the wu tang will keep as part of the greatest rap group of all time, bar none...
