What's the easiest way to get to Athens from Rockdale? I don't have a 'physical' Texas map on me and yahoo isn't giving me the views I want...

Hwy 19 to Palestine
Hwy 79 to Rockdale...exit on Hwy 77
Beware of the speed trap in Franklin!!!!

I'll be going to Athens from Cuero, will be going through Yoakum, Halletsvile, Shulenburg, La Grange, Giddings, then Rockdale (isn't Lexington in there somewhere? something like that)... I know my way there, but not the rest of the way...

Accually, Old Tiger, you don't have to research it for me, I just thought you might know an easier route seeing how you're about 120 miles closer to Athens than I am heh...

Yah, that's what I thought (about Lexington)...

Then you will want to go 77 from LG to Rockdale (go through Giddings and Lexington)

79 through Milano to Hearne (you have to exit onto Hwy 6 for a bit...turn left at McDonalds)
THEN you will get back on 79 and go to Franklin (WATCH OUT FOR THE SPEED TRAP....THEY LOVE TO GET OUT OF TOWNERS FOR JUST A COUPLE OF MPH OVER!!!)

Follow 79 to Buffalo and on into Palestine

At Palestine take Hwy 19 to Athens

From LG to Athens is about 4 hours...according to how you drive and what farmers are on the road that day. I have driven this route a million times...some in my sleep wink eek!

Thanks a lot, lepfan..

4 hours isn't that bad, I love road trips, esspecially to places I've never been... I'm familiar with the beautiful secenery in between Cuero and Giddings, have been to Rockdale once but don't remember too much...

It should be a fun drive...
