Is this rule true? If so, what about black, long sleeve under armor? Would that be legal?

specifically - what is the rule you are talking about? "UIL Rule on Black Jersey's and gloves/etc...." - what does that mean?

I remember hearing rumors this summer about wearing black gloves was illegal or something.

I've heard that too. Don't know if it's true or not, but I know when I was a soccer referee you couldn't wear black in ANY of the youth sports. I've heard something about the black Underarmor and black gloves, too, but I saw a team a couple years back (Giddings, I think) that had a lot of kids wearing it.

What would be the reason for it? Heat? Faking the appearance of the ball? I can't figure what the purpose would be...

I dont think so, we had black receiver gloves last year.

Have they worn this this year? Because it might be a new rule, if it is one.

UIL exception to NCAA rules permit gloves to be any color. Not sure what you mean about the jersey's. Who said black jerseys were illegal? And there are no rules about the underwear. It can be any color.

I wasn't specifically talking about football jersey's. I heard something about that someone ordered black baseball jersey's, and then the rules changed or something and they couldn't be used.

Sorry, can't help with baseball issues (or pink jock straps).

Ain't that the truth. I went to a couple of Forney games last year, and it looked like flags were flying at the line of scrimmage on every play.

the rule is all about how u cant have the same color gloves as the opposing teams jersey cause the refs will not be able to tell if ur holding or not

TXMike

That is the reason the NCAA went to the rule but UIL gave an exception due to cost of buying new gloves. At first it was just going to be a temporary (year or 2 year) exception but it never went away.

I believe the color of the gloves have to be a shade of grey (dark or light) it doesn't matter. This was done to keep DB's from wearing the same color gloves as the WR jersey and making it hard to see any holding.

i think grey gloves were chosen because I don't think there is a team that has grey jerseys.

Again....UIL rules permit ANY color of gloves be worn, regardless of the position of the player.

you cannot pull your socks down, supposedly, over your shoes. You can though wear the devices that go over your shoe that are manufactured for that purpose. (like in the picture) You can also tape your shoes but you cannot pull your socks down.

The spats that go on the shoes are illegal and we got the word earlier this year that spats are a "uniform attachment: and therefore illegal. If all the team had their socks down over the shoes that should be legal since the length would then be the same.

When Sweetwater played Merkel, one of Merkel's receivers had yellow sleeves and I saw flags that didn't exist. it was tripping me out.

You can spat with tape though, and then it becomes legal. Most kids are getting it done one way or another. Other than it being ugly I really don't see the need for a rule. TxMike what is the idea behind this one?

A little late they stopped wearing them the last few home games. Refs wouldn't let 'em

The rule does not specifically address spats. But we have been told to consider them uniform attachments and uniform attachments are specifically prohibited. They are prohibited because NCAA desires to have players looking uniform as much as possible (like in the sock rule). Seems to me that if everyone on the team wore the spats they should be permitted.
