How about the number one defense in 3A combined with a tie for the number three offense?

Gilmer's offense has averaged 41 ppg.

Gilmer's defense has allowed 64 points in 9 games for an average of 7 ppg.

That sports fans is how you win championships.

Welcome back PPHSfan.....I have said it in numerous posts, I just hope that Gilmer goes D1 and they and Decatur go far enough to end up in the D1 R1/2 final. Decatur has similar numbers, but the Gilmer "D" vs the Decatur "O" would be a classic.

R4 has been in the final for the last three years in a row. And, it couldn't be the final, they would meet in the semi's.

I cover Gilmer as part of LST...in fact have their HC on my show tomorrow. I like the Buckeyes, but they have not played top teams, in a very weak district and their non-district was not as good as it looked to be before the year began.

I still think they make a nice run, but they are going to have to be able to learn to play in a close tight game quickly

That's what I meant Sinton....Decatur in the R1/R2 state semi-final, or R1/2 final as I called it. From there I'll pick Decatur to probably end up aginst Cuero from R4 in the championship game. Easy now...this ain't the Sinton vs Ingleside thread, we're the "good" guys, remember.

I agree, there are probably about 30 schools in 3A that would be undefeated if they had Gilmer's schedule. Gilmer might be very very good, they might not be as good as you think, thats the thing, we just won't know until they play someone.

That's probably an accurate statement about Gilmer's competition so far, they really haven't beaten any ranked teams. I'm just going by what I've been told about their players on defense---very big and very fast. Also, they have a D1 prospect WR turned into QB on offense.

Manual Johnson is the WR turned QB..he did play QB before..over 2000 yards passing over 20 TD's throwing plus some great rushing stats.

Their D is great 3 D1 signees..I am not saying they are not good..I just think their easy schedule might hurt them in the play-offs in the deep rounds

Keith, did Gainesville beat anybody ranked before they won State? If not, the "soft" schedule theory may not be that significant. I do agree, however, that teams playing a tough schedule prior to playoffs probably do go deeper.

I see a lot of similarity between the Gainesville state champ team and Gilmer this year. I think Gainesville had 2 D1 prospects on a big, fast defense, and really good speed at the skill positions on offense.

I did say 2 D1 prospects on Defense, and I forgot about Purvey on offense as he was so young.

our defense is outstanding..3 points given up in first 2 qtrs. all year..22 given up in 3rd. 39 given up in fourth when underclassman playing..64 points total...in 9 games..it's not the caliber of teams we're playing, we are just that good on defense.
