View Full Version : Regional Championship Meet and Greets

It's getting close to playoff time, and I would like to address an idea we had last year. We want to do Meet and Greets at the regional championships this year. We need people in each region to step up and take the bull by the horns and get it going. Reg 4 Div.1 is covered, the rest need volunteers.

We did this last year at the Div.1 final. Cooked and ate some good sausage wraps, enjoyed the company, and watched some championship football. Perhaps we can do that again.

What do you say downlow? Are we up for it?

I remember when we did it at Texas Stadium, it was so hot outside.

As far as I go, it will depend on WHEN and WHERE it is!

Is that date set?

I don't think anything is set in concrete just yet. At least, I haven't seen anything on it yet.

Just looked at the UIL calendar, they show Div.1 finals Dec. 11th and Div.2 finals Dec. 18th. Sites will be up to the teams.

I suppose the regional dates/sites are up to the teams, because some of them might be played on Saturday.

RM, as Sinton said, nothing is in concrete, but my best guess is that Regionals will probably be Nov 19 or Nov 20. The "Where" of course, we have no way of knowing until the opposing coaches decide on the sites. Most coaches will have a 2-week "possible" scenario in place after playoffs begin. I would really like to meet you and others at one of the Regionals....I think it would be a ball.

I will help out on the Region 1 stuff... I know that Rangermom would probably be interested, and I already have another member who would like to help on the Region 1 M&G... As everyone has mentioned, as the bracket gets more stabilized, we can set more plans...

My general idea here is for the leadership of the board to attend these in their own regions of course, and then all of us congregate at one of the championships. RM and I have done this for two years now, and I have thoroughly enjoyed it.

Regions 2 and 3 will be the toughest, because that's where the admins are, and they're so busy they might not be able to fit it into their schedules, but we'll see how it goes. Hopefully, they can make some room on their plates.

Hey 66, if you need any help with any games that are being played at Kyle I'll give you a hand, just ask. There's a lot of R3 games that are played here during the Regional brackets of the playoffs.

We do need somebody to step up for R3. The regional final might be played in any number of places, though, Astrodome, Kyle, SHSU, Cy-Falls, etc. You'll need to stay plugged in. It would definitely help if you could pitch in and organize it.

Usually have a pre=arranged meeting place. When we did last year's championship, I gave a description of my vehicle and pit and said I would be on the southwest corner of Texas Stadium. Everybody managed to find it, and we had a great time. The local M&G's just pre-arranged place and time.

The D1 Regional Finals will be Nov 26/27. That is the week of Thanksgiving.

The D2 Regional Finals will be the following weekend Dec 3/4.

Also, at one time, I had looked into getting some 3ADL flags made but discovered it was more expensive than I thought. A good quality custom flag runs around $300. If anybody finds a flagmaker that would give us a break, let me know and we'll see what we can do.

As far as D2 Reg II goes, it's really hard to plan for anything because of how weird the matchups could be.

If Gilmer plays Tatum in the Reg II Finals, that's a "no brainer" with Longview's Lobo Stadium being the obvious choice. But aside from that matchup; especially if the Dallas schools get involved, it becomes a little hard to call. I'll do what I can, and as it gets closer, if it's in East Texas (i.e. Longview, Tyler, Mt. Pleasant) I'll be happy to take charge.
