It sure is good to see my hometown Lufkin Panthers 7-0 in their new district on their way. I was concerned about them being placed in district with The Woodlands and a bunch of other north Houston teams after the realignment. Right now they are #1 in district. They seem to be doing just fine, 50-7, I think, tonight over Huntsville and still undefeated!

Actually, it was Lufkin 50 Huntsville 27. It was even 23-20 at one point, Huntsville is one of the worst 5A schools in the state.

I figured I'd be corrected on that score. I knew Lufkin was 50, but couldn't remember what Huntsville was. Thanks for setting the record straight. The Lufkin Daily News on-line even said, "After a slow start in the first half for Lufkin..." I know Huntsville is not very good, last in district.

How are things up there in Tyler these days? I sure was sad to see the old days gone with the new realignment last year. All the old rivalries a thing of the past. I remember the games of the 70's. I was at all of them for four years!

Tyler Lee and Longview are dominating that district, but one of the Mesquite schools will take the 3rd playoff spot. John Tyler is better, but still not good enough to compete with the big boys.

I pretty much figured those two teams would be the dominating forces of the new district. Both have such good programs. Best of luck to you guys this year!

I'm just hoping that Lufkin goes a lot deeper than the first round like they did last year. Man, was that ever disappointing after winning State in 2001 and getting to the semifinals in 2002 only to lose out in the first round last year. That stank! Whoever they play, look out for "The Train"!
