The Pirates just lined up and wore down da Mules; that puts them in position to win their first district title since 1974 or there-abouts. Score was Cooper 6-Mules 0 at halftime in a very intense and hard-fought game. Muleshoe stopped the Pirates at the end of the 1st quarter after Cooper made a 1st down on the Mules 8-yard line, but Cooper's defense shut down the Muleshoe offense for most of the night. da Mules came back out in the second half and took a 7-6 lead. then Cooper came back and went up 14-13 by early 4th quarter. The Pirates big O-line took charge and ground out another long drive to go up 21-13. Muleshoe immediately drove down the field to the Cooper 20, and then fumbled the ball away... that was basically the ball game right there. That fumble and 2 15-yard bonehead penalties slammed the door on the Mules. Cooper got a gimme touchdown to finish the game at 28-13.
Congratulations to the Pirates, who should wrap up district 2-3a gold with a win over Brownfield in 2 weeks.
Muleshoe will come back on fire to rough up the Cubs next Friday.
In other 2-3a action, Levelland beat Brownfield. will post score as soon as I hear it.
edit: Levelland 21, Brownfield 6. Levelland may indeed make the playoffs if they beat LIttlefield next week.. that would make them the D1 rep. which would do Lubbock Cooper a huge favor by not matching them up with Canyon in the 1st round. :thinking:
