I am a UT fan but I can't figure out why they would be upset if referred to Texas University (TU) instead of University of Texas (UT). Please give some enlightenment here. There must be some history I don't know of.

Texas Universtiy would mean that it is just another university in Texas, but The University of Texas implies that it is THE universtiy in Texas.

I wish I knew the answer as well. Being raised in West Texas, and NOT a UT fan, my mother always (and still does) called it TU. I thought that at one point it was known as Texas University, but changed the name. It's only recently, after some research, that I found that to not be the case. Maybe JD94 can answer why "TU" is such an insult.

All i know (which isn't much) is that the Aggies use it on wheelbarrels during the parades to imply manure from Bevo...

either way it lightens up the 'rivalry'

i thought in a rivalry game both teams should win every now and then. . .
