When I was 22 I was living in Abilene and a car drove by me with "Muck FOJO" on the back window.

It wasn't until just a few months ago that I had an epiphany (I have always wanted to use that word) and it FINALLY dawned what that meant!!

How about the Cubs? I played at Olney, and got terribly tired of hearing that we were just baby bears, not even full grown ones. We were just cute and cuddly.

Hippos. By the way, are the girl's teams the hippos also? Does your name have to be Bertha to play? Is the junior high the Pigs? Is this a Texas city where fat people go? Is the town a sanctuary for fat people? Are their a bunch of sanatoriums for fat people there?

I went to college in Iowa. There was a town in Illinois with a great football team. They were the Freeport "Fighting Pretzels."

Let me also tell you about the teams in my conference in Iowa. Central College "Flying Dutchmen", Upper Iowa "Peacocks", William Penn "Statesmen", Luther College "Norsemen" (Yes, that is with a "N"), Loras College "Duhawks", Coe College "Kohawks".
What is wrong with those people in Iowa?

When the Flying Dutchment & the Norsemen played, was it known as the "Battle of the Blondes"? :D

The worst mascot is the Western Columbia Fat Necks and their girls are the Lady Necks -- yuck.....

Two other unusual ones for schools that no longer exist:
Beaumont High Royal Purples
Beaumont South Park Greenies

More:
Frost Polar Bears
Crowley (LA) Gentlemen (Gents)
are their girls the "Lady Gentlemen?"
Nope, they are the "Ladies."

It is said the hippopotamus came into vogue at Hutto, a community in South Central Williamson County about eight miles west of the Taylor Ducks, after one of the mammals strayed from a carnival which came to the community in 1915.

The hippo wandered into a nearby creek seeking its natural habitat and remained free several days. When carnival officials located it and tried to lure it out of the creek bottoms' good and cool water, it became belligerent.

The ordeal of re-capturing the ferocious animal was so ingrained in the citizens' minds that when Hutto opened its first 11 grade school later that year, it chose to name its athletic teams the Hippos.

Today, Class AAA Hutto's Hippopotami are called "THE HUSTLIN' HIPPOS," since the animals are known to run as fast as man and gallop at a faster pace for shorter distances.
