Do you think the "Win One for the Gipper" sentiment still exists between some players and coaches? Are as many coaches today "close" to their players as in former years? I think closeness between players and coaches is less today because most modern coaches in 3A and up are also the AD, and this means that head coaches must spread their time and sentiments out over a much greater area of responsibility as well as number of players. However, I can remember in years past coaches knowing when a kid had just lost a girlfriend or had a traumatic family experience, and I can even remember hearing about coaches helping "poor" kids out by giving them rides to practice or seeing that they got odd jobs around town.
