Been hearing alot about Canyon so I did a little investigating.......
The Eagles opponents are 18-37.So IMHO the jury is still out.

They have one upcoming with Perryton. That should let us know.

I seem to feel the same way about Perryton. Who is there to play in the panhandle anyway? Perryton got knocked off by 2A's #9. These teams are suspect in my opinion. The only real measuring stick is the playoffs.

It IS very difficult to compare teams from the far reaches. It's not like we are all 5a schools with a giant booster club and the funds to charter jets so we can just play all over the state.
You can't rate the Valley because they "never play anybody but each other." So a very good Port Isabel team got overlooked until deep in the playoffs last year.
Seem to remember Midland Greenwood and Perryton turning a few heads in the last couple of years also.
Canyon has a very good QB, a strong physical O&D line, speedy running back, and some good receivers. No they haven't lined up against Decatur (yet.) They did send a decent Lubbock Cooper home with a big D, and I don't mean Dallas.
Perryton is just...solid. They also have a fine QB, a good stable of RB's (they did lose their best one for the season), big lines, and a manic swarming defense.
These two schools are capable of giving anyone in Region 1 a tough outing.

Oh, and that little 2a Canadian school that kicked the Rangers butts just may be a contender for all the marbles this December.

Sometimes you gotta see it to believe it.

Check out these numbers for Canyon. They are impressive regardless of the location.

08/27/2004 Amarillo Caprock (3-4A) won: 36-0
09/03/2004 @ Seminole (3-3A) won: 40-9
09/10/2004 Canyon Randall (3-4A) won: 22-8
09/17/2004 Littlefield (2-3A) won: 50-27
09/24/2004 @ Levelland (2-3A) won: 42-14
10/01/2004 @ Lubbock Cooper (2-3A) won: 25-20
10/15/2004 Dalhart (1-3A) won: 50-0

D1 Region 1 is going to be brutal though. I will be surprised to see anyone hang within 20 of Decatur.

Agreed! Looks like Canyon has put up some numbers as well. The Cooper game has to say something about this team.

Good point DaMules, that's what I have always believed, that it's hard to make comparison until they play each other.

canyon has some good athletes when we met them in the playoffs in 02 the year greenwood went state. we met them in the 2nd round and they very well could have beat us they had a fullback that was probably 235 or 240 and if they would have ran him up the gut every play they might have won the game cause he was getting 5 to 6 yards a carry every play. so dont count out canyon just cause there way up there near the panhandle they have some great athletes.

that was a great hard fought game ranger. the qb from greenwood that year was phenominal.
