Caldwell downs Hutto

Caldwell improved its state playoff hopes by defeating host Hutto 24-8 Friday night in a District 19-3A football game.

Jerrick Gauthier's touchdown helped the Hippos (4-3, 2-2) to an early 8-0 lead, but Caldwell scored 10 points late in the second quarter and took control the rest of the way.

Kendrick Pittman led the Hornets (6-1, 3-1) with 105 yards on 32 carries. Jeremy Kerley, with 77 yards rushing, and Gauthier, with 56, paced Hutto.

Manor 38, Smithville 7: Manor ended a month-long skid by overrunning winless Smithville (0-7, 0-4) in District 19-3A play.
