I hope he gets to go somewhere where they will use him. He deserves as much.

Rice, the greatest reciever of all time, and perhaps considered by some the greatest olayer off all time is on the sidelines, I know he may be adavanced in age but I am sure he can still do some damage on the field, he should be able to go to a team that will use his abilities and then he can go out on his own terms

yeah, but does he do the thing that some players do where they should of left a long time ago, and they just make themselves look bad and diminish their greatness

example, hakeem olajuwon, emmitt smith

Emmit Smith had one of the best games of his life last week...He still has it. Just doesn't have the protection up front as the past.

He can still run a better route than 90% of the youngsters out there and his hands are as soft as ever. He can still help a team if he's used in the right context. I doubt you'll hear Harrington cry about it.

I just don't buy into that argument about a player's legacy diminishing because he played past his prime. It may happen for players who suffer through injury during their prime (see Ken Griffey, Jr.), but not for the likes of Montana, Marino, O.J. Simpson, Unitas, and most of all Jim Thorpe. Thorpe is still considered the best athlete of all time and is regarded by most as the best football player of all time. He retired back in the late 20's at the age of 41. Pretty old for a K/P/HB/DB.

Like hell he couldn't. He went to the Olympics and won a couple of golds in track, then went and played in the Major Leagues. And his best sport was still football.

He'd be a star in the league today. I don't care how much the game has changed, he DOMINATED back then. Thorpe had the size back then (6'1", 190#) that's almost ideal for a HB today. Put him in the weight room for a summer and he tacks on those extra 10 pounds easy.
