State's elite in football go big time

The Southlake Carroll-Denton Ryan game to be televised on ESPN2 tonight has created plenty of buzz about state titles and rankings.

It's the first Texas high school game on national TV.

Carroll officials had been in negotiations for almost six months to play a televised game. The plans were cemented about a month ago.

It won't be the only Texas high school football game on TV tonight.

Capitalizing on last week's release of Friday Night Lights, Fox Sports Net is showing the Midland Lee-Odessa Permian game. That game will be preceded by a 30-minute special detailing the rivalry between the two schools.

I am looking forward to this one. Two top-notch programs that should really give us a whale of a game. The excitement will be so thick you could cut it with a knife. Denton Ryan came out of a few years ago and has made the state finals 4 years running while SLC has won Finals in 3A, 4A and 5A over the last decade or so (I think)...can't wait.

Actually SLC did not win a title at the 4A level. They actually sort of struggled( at least for them) They became a power again in 5A
