In the opener for District 67, North Zone, Scrub Oak wins a defensive skirmish over Needmore in the final seconds. The game ended in controversy and is under review by the district committee and county superintendent. Reminiscent of the '57 Rice and Bama Cotton Bowl game, a Needmore player, running for an apparent touchdown, was tackled by a fan causing a fumble. The fumble was recover by a Miss Bertha Butts of Scrub Oak and returned for a game winning touchdown. The fan, known in some parts as G, remains unconscious at the local veterinary clinic. While celebrating his tackle of the Needmore player G failed to realize that he was in the path of a determined Miss Butts. He survived taking her right knee to the temple, but when her left knee caught him in the groin, he went down for the count. When and if he regains consciousness, the committee will make a decision.
