I agree it's terrible, but Furcal's profession is a game.

Sept 14 2004

Another major leaguer recently brought legal troubles upon himself with bad behavior. At 4:20 am Friday, Furcal was stopped in an Atlanta suburb and arrested, charged with driving while intoxicated. This was his second DWI arrest in less than four years, and comes while the Braves’ standout leadoff man remains on probation from the 2000 conviction.

As a likely probation violation, Furcal faces possible jail time for this occurrence. He has publicly apologized to his teammates and to the fans for the embarrassment, he has caused.

"Nobody feels worse about this whole thing than Raffy," Braves’ manager Bobby Cox said. "We've got to help him along as much as we can right now. He needs all the support that anybody can give him. He feels absolutely terrible."

He was sentenced to something like 40 days to serve immediately after the season ends. He was under house and dugout arrest during his stay in Houston.

Was about to say, ask Jamal Lewis?!?! Baseball, Football the two sports who are suppose to be the prime time sports. A sport that does not do this, and one that has been slammed recently (probably because they are in lock-out) but look at hockey. Look at Marty McSorely (sp?) from a while back and the Canucks Bertuzzi. Did not play and the Canucks lost in the play-offs. Will they play this year, who knows. They do play by the rules however.

I'm going to go on the assumption that this was a judge in Atlanta that made this decision. Anyone know if that's correct?

And look at Martha Stewart (spelling?) deciding on when she will serve her jail sentence. If anything like that happened in South Texas the Judge would never accept it. It is like a guy owning a construction business saying he wants to start serving his jail sentence after he finishes a construction job. The Judges here would tell him he should have thought about that before the crime. And the Judges would be right.
