Saw Friday Night Lights last night.....great movie, one of the best i've seen. Did Boobie Miles remind anyone of good ole' Leon Phelps?

Also, does anyone know if he was as dominante of a player as the movie made him seem, or was that an exageration? and did he get hurt in the first game?

the are not "inaccuracies" - they are differences in the movie & what really happened in 1988.

so he tore his acl in a scrimmage... that sounds even more like the 2004 gobblers... we lose latrael in a scrimmage, we have a running back that fumbles a lot, and we have a young rb that is awesome....

I think Ivory Christian is the long haul truck driver.

actually, boobie miles is a garbage truck guy, it kinda foreshadows his job in the movie whenever he's outside his house and watches the garbage men come by, its really kinda sad, and also in the movie, the real boobie miles was standing beside the kid playing his part during the half-time of the Permian-Carter game

Did anyone notice Joe Beene in the movie? He is the Permian football player that was paralyzed a few years back during practice. I believe he made his appearance during the Permian - Marshall (Midland High Uni's) game.

no it doesnt....it said that Ivory Chirstian was a truck driver after being the only player go Div. 1....all it said about boobie was that he lives in monahans with his kids

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but he lives in Monahans and takes care of his kids (because his wife is incarcerated).

thats so sad...someone with all that talent tearing their ACL....last night when i was watching the movie, i was watching it w/ the guy who woulda been our QB all last season but tore his ACL the 4th game, he was a really good QB too and if we woulda had him....State was the limit, it was sad watchin the movie, but also sitting beside him, cuz i knew that it touched him on a level that didnt touch me

I just ran across this. Evidently it isn't his wife (who is incarcerated) but the mother of his children:

JAMES 'BOOBIE' MILES

Then: Star running back who quit the team at mid-season after his dreams of playing big-time college ball ended with a preseason knee injury.

Now: Single father of four does maintenance work in West Texas town of Monahans. Has a bit part in the "Friday Night Lights" movie as a Permian assistant coach.

AHA!..i was correct about most of it, cept his occupation, but i knew that he was an assistant coach in the movie

Hey how was Mr. Miles performance in the movie? Did he have any speaking lines? Maybe he will have a new profession and be a movie star now. That would be poetic justice. If it happens Mr. Miles I know a bright new possible movie star in Sinton and if they ever decide to make The GodFather Part IV and ...........

Did anyone notice the Midland Lee quarterback wearing the new revolution helmet, and a lot of the players wearing under armour arm bands or nike and cutter gloves; i don't think they made those back in 1988.

mustang04
10-10-2004, 05:36 PM
yeah...and one of the dallas carter players had a brand new Oakley tinted helmet visor...haha

Carter had red jerseys and pants, and i think they had blue outline. I thought the tint on Carters visors was blue, not green, some other teams had black ones. But whatever color it was, i don't think they had Oakley visors then.

mustang04
10-10-2004, 07:24 PM
there might have been a blue one...but the one i pointed out to my friends was black, and u could see the O's on it, i wanted one of those last year!

LST_Terry

Your right about the model being new..but they wore the sheilds because they thought it made them look tougher, there is a section in the book about that when he was decribing them. And I saw them play that year in the best game of the whole year when they beat a great Marshall team 22-18...and yes Red and blue are their school colors.

Yeah, a bunch of players had the black ones. The defensive end that injured Booby at the beginning was wearing a green one, i think. Also, the taped ankles and the socks covering the heel of the shoe, i doubt they did that either. I felt that it took away from the year that this all actually happened.

the teams were all fixed up like new teams...i envy all those players on the movie cuz of their style w/ the under-armor stuff and everything....they looked like they just shopped outta the fall 2004 issue of Eastbay hehe, ive seen plent of pix from teams from the late 80's...and they looked nothing like the movie

Keith7
10-10-2004, 07:32 PM
did you guys not get under armor issued to yall?

mustang04
10-10-2004, 07:33 PM
