i've gotten an M.I.P. once.. not much fun..

i got a fine of 215 dollars, had to write a 10 page paper, and do 20 hours of community service at the Gainesville Zoo in which included me scooping up goat poop all day once

I remember they raised it from 18 to 19 and then a few years later to 21.

I have been legal since I was 18. They raised it to 21 right after I turned 21. My ex-husband (who wasn't an ex at the time) was only 20...so I had to buy his beer!:p

Oh, and Jason..I drove a Mazda RX-7!

They were alot more lenient in bars "back in the day" also.

My purse was stolen 2 weeks after I turned 18. I flew to Austin and went bar-hopping with some friends. All I had was my paper I.D....they let me in because the name on the paper license matched the initials in my Senior Ring!:p

I was lucky because we never got caught, but now i would'nt want to get an M.I.P. I believe it's a lot worse now.

Did you all read that article??? I was a judge in Southeast Texas for six years. We had a case similar to the one in BC. All the kids were at a party and the police and TABC rolled up on the residence. They found ONE kid out of 50 that had booze on them. He was holding a beer. His parents owned the house but were out of the area. Those cases came to me and my court's prosecutor. The prosecutor (usually the city attorney) got many opinions and read the law on this and found that there needed to be a direct connection between the kid and the booze. If it isn't in their hand and they don't have alcohol on their breath, it won't do. All but 1 case was dismissed. That's just the law.

It is a foreign concept for me to think about a time when it would have been legal for high school seniors to be old enough to drink. I'll bet those senior years were quite different! :D

The scary part is that there were no open container laws or seatbelt laws back then either. It's a wonder there are any Texans over the age of 40.

no I was just messing w/ you... the case was in under my legs we were caught from the get go, but it took 3 cop cars and 5 cops to finally see the case! jeez cops go to the block and arrest the guys selling crack and meth, leave us kids out on a backroad alone we were only driving 15 miles per hour, hardly dangerous

Well my friends where dumb enough to stop in pull someone over to tell them to go to a party somewhere, then some1 in the vechial had to pee so he stayed there and the police pulled up behind us and asked us what we where doing.... ya go figure my friend told him he was sick and he had to throw up. when i figured out they had beer in the back of the truck i was like omg he is a smart one. So im figureing the cop is thinking yoru sick because you have been drinking! Anyways no1 confessed to whom beer it was so we all got an MIP.
