Please share your history that you know of regarding this great rivalry whether from living it or learning it from history. Do this whether you are a UT or Ok fan or neautral, etc. Our local paper picked five games from the past 30 years but this tradition is much older than that. Two games (one I watched the other from history) were from the earlier Darrell Royal years. In 1958 Texas hadn't beaten Ok in several years. That was the year the two point extra point option was introduced. In that game Texas scored first and went for two to lead 8 to 0. That was the difference in the game because Ok scored twice to lead 14 to 8 but Texas scored late in the fourth and went for one this time and won 15 to 14. This started a win streak of 7 games for Texas.
Of course in 1963 OK was No. 1 and Texas No. 2 in another game of the century. The prior week OK beat USC who had been No. 1 and the prior year national champions. OK running back Joe Don Looney had been great and scored the winning td against USC as OK won 17 to 12. OK was favored slightly but Texas used a great defense led by Tommy Nobis and Scott Appleton and the offense scored the points and Texas won 28 to 7. The week after the game OK suspended Looney from the team for discipline reasons. Texas became No. 1 and won the rest of its' games including the cotton bowl and were crowned the 1963 National Champions in college football.

The 1962 game was also a great one but was a defensive battle all the way. Texas won 9 - 6 and only a tie with Rice kept Texas from having a perfect regury season (Texas lost to LSU in the Cotton Bowl). Texas got the winning touchdown when the OK quarterback tried to pitchout long to a running back who fumbled into the endzone and Texas recovered for a Santa Claus td which was the difference in the game.

Another good one was in 1977. Between 1958 and 1970 Texas won all the games but one. From 1971 to 1976 OK won them all except for one that was a tie. So it was a relief to Texas fans when Earl Campbell had a great day and Texas won 13 to 6.
