I was doing some research for the Oct. 22 game program and looking thru my 1979 DCTF - thats 25 years ago or you middle schoolers ... here was the 3A (back then the 3rd biggest class was 2A) preseason top 10:

We may have been playing 6-man back then, at the most class B. The 1980 census shows population of 300.

For a look at how things change, check how sweetwater was doing back then. We were in district 3-AAA at the time if I'm not mistaken.

Lets talk about how tough it was back then. In 1978 only one team went to the playoffs. There were several 9-1 teams that sat home in November. Man how the times have changed.

sweetwater was in 3-AAA with Snyder, San Angelo Lake View, Brownfield & Lamesa - yes, only 5 teams

Ahh yess... I remember those days being an anxious elementary schooler who couldn't wait until Friday nights....

I believe those were the days in Bull land of Jimbo Bartee and Kyle Clifton... (Jets Middle LB in 80s and 90s)
