This Week's Poll...

This week the Bulls start district play and of course, all thoughts turn to what it will take to make the playoffs. Which leads me to the question, "what do you think about how many teams make the playoff today?"

As always, polls should close on Friday...

Last Week's Poll...

Last week we asked what folks did during bye week... most folks planned on attending other games. Another great response and I really enjoyed reading the posts!

You may very well see a 6th classification the next alignment. It is sounding more and more like it will happen. If so, with the current playoff format it could really get watered down. I would think they would drop the big and small school system.

i would say take the top two teams from each district and just have one playoff

I don't like any of the choices.

I say do away with the two scrimmage games. Play two preseason games. Then play everyone in your distict twice. Once at home, and once on the road. Then take the top two teams from each district. Put all 64 teams into two brackets regardless of district. The 32 largest are D1 and the 32 smallest are D2. Seed the brackets and play for the trophy.

I can't vote on this one as I don't like the choices. My idea is to take three teams, dist. champ gets a bye. Other two teams play bi-district, but dist. champ gets a bye into area round.
No Div. I or Div. II... everybody plays.

Top two, one playoff. Just like it was a few years back.

3 teams in the playoffs is fine if all districts had 7 teams.
but it doesn't seem right to have 3 teams go out of a 5 team district. i wish there were more than one team going to playoffs back in 1973, rockwall, kaufman , and forney all tied for 13AA champs rockwall won the coin flip that was a bummer

Man, I don't ever want to go back to 1 team per district makes the playoffs. Jasper, I don't remember the exact year, gave up either 0 or 1 td all season only to lose on penetrations to Beaumont Hebert. Didn't even make the playoffs.:(

technically there already are 6 classifications:
5A
4A
3A
2A
1A
6-Man

It was the year that Huntsville won state. I think it was 1980. And that is not all the story. The year ended with Jasper being the ONLY undefeated 4a team in the state with an 8-0-2 record. One of those ties was to Hebert as you mentioned. The other tie was with Huntsville, the state champion. Yet Jasper got not one little bit of recognition state wide because they did not make the playoffs. :( So I totally agree, just one team making the playoffs stinks. But I do think three teams from a district is usually stretching it. The two teams advancing seemed just right to me with just one champion! :) Those were the good old days! ;)

I don't like any of your choices. I agree with several previous posters. Top two from each district, one playoff.

I agree w/ PPHSfan, I like that 3 teams are making the playoffs now, it juices up the playoffs a bit, and the UIL should take the top 32 w/ the highest enrollment to put in D1, regardless of what district they are in.

I like the idea of the top 3 making playoffs. District champion gets a bye game. (If it is a tie then a coin flip will have to be made.) It would reward those who made Dist. Champs.

I would like to see two teams from each district. The largest school would go to D1 and the smaller one to D2. Then, after the champion from each division has been decided, there would be one week left to have a championship game between the two champions. That would then give us a true State Champion.
