As of this date looks like Jasper, WOS, Decatur and Cuero are the tops. If Jasper and WOS go Div. 1, could be another battle. Cuero is in region 4 and Decatur in region 1. They could meet at State.

Gilmer will go D2

They are the second smallest enrollment in their district. It is impossible for them to go D1

I've been able to see Gilmer play and they are legit. They'll be one of the few playing into December, but I dont feel that they are the state's best. Region 3 is loaded this year and someone out of that region will win a Division II state title.

Decatur

However, come December it could be a different story.

1. Decatur
2. Liberty Hill
3. Spring Hill
4. Cuero
5. Navasota
6. Gilmer
7. WOS
8. Jasper

Sure I've got my Austin area bias. I just can't wait until the playoffs. Will be very interesting and I'm looking for some serious upsets, especially in Region II and III.

Easy pick--Division I-- WO-S wins it, the toughest games they will have will be in Region III; with probably Silsbee or Palestine giving them the best game...Division II Winner will be Jasper. They will only be challenged a little by either BH vs BC winner at the Region III climb.

Delete your 7 & 8 and I would be more inclined to go with your number 2 as # 1. #5 and #4 are pretty good too.

P.S. After deleting your #7 and #8....add Barbers Hill to the list. Heck, WOS is 2-2 already, soon to be 3-2 after the Bye week.

Actually, Gilmer has the 2nd largest enrollment in their district just a few behind Gladewater. So they could go Division 1 if Gladewater faills to make playoffs

After that close game between Sinton and Cuero the other night I would have to say Cuero is the top dog, and even though Sinton is 3-2 they should be ranked a little higher. Anyone agree?

i know that they arent the best team right now (friday vs Decatur will tell us a lot) but Sandifer's teams at Wylie always seem to find a way to hang around in games that they should lose (see Aledo and Everman in '00, and Everman and Gainesville in '03) and out of those 4 games the Gainesville one is the only one that they have lost...I know its a homer pick but its something about the program that Sandifer has and his ability to take good teams and do great things with them!

Let's hold off on handing Gilmer the Region 2 Crown quite yet.

While the Buckeyes came into the season with high expectations and have performed fairly well to this point, we need to take a look at their level of competition through the first 5 games.

Through these first 5 games, Gilmer's opponents combined record is only 7 wins & 15 losses. These opponents have scored an average of only 15.63 ppg and given up 27.5 ppg. That is as weak a schedule and as any of the top teams in the area.

Pine Tree (1-3)
-- points scored/season 37 (9.25 ppg)
-- points allowed/season 110 (27.5 ppg allowed)
-- Scores:
------- Gilmer 48 Pine Tree 7
------- Pine Tree 10 Gladewater 6
------- Lindale 42 Pine Tree 20
------- Whitehouse 14 Pine Tree 0
------- this week: Jacksonville (3-1)

Jefferson (1-4)
-- points scored/season 64 (12.80 ppg)
-- points allowed/season 130 (26.00 ppg allowed)
-- Scores:
------- Tatum 21 Jefferson 0
------- Gilmer 28 Jefferson 0
------- Paul Pewitt(2A) 26 Jefferson 12
------- Jefferson 32 Linden-Kildare(2A) 6
------- Carthage 39 Jefferson 20
------- this week: OPEN

Lindale (2-3)
-- points scored/season 131 (26.20 ppg)
-- points allowed/season 170 (34.00 ppg allowed)
-- Scores:
------- Spring Hill 51 Lindale 20
------- Lindale 27 Wills Point 24
------- Gilmer 35 Lindale 6
------- Lindale 42 Pine Tree 20
------- Daingerfield 40 Lindale 35
------- this week: OPEN

Paris (1-3)
-- points scored/season 89 (22.25 ppg)
-- points allowed /season 120 (30.00 ppg allowed)
-- Scores:
------- Commerce 17 Paris 14
------- Paris 61 Quinlan Ford 26
------- Gilmer 62 Paris 16
------- Forney 15 Paris 10
------- this week: Liberty-Eylau (2-2)

Pleasant Grove (2-2)
-- points scored/season 57 (14.25 ppg)
-- points allowed/season 75 (18.25 ppg allowed)
-- Scores:
------- Pleasant Grove 20 Hooks 0
------- Pleasant Grove 23 Little Cypress-Mauiriceville 14
------- Ashdown, Ark 35 Pleasant Grove 7
------- Gilmer 20 Pleasant Grove 7
------- this week: Spring Hill (5-0)

Gilmer may very well end up being the top team in the region, but their performance thus far has not given them that clear-cut distinction.

In Division 1; Kennedale & Liberty-Eylau should be the top two, but Carthage & Chapel Hill may get on a roll and knock either of them off.

Assuming Gilmer goes D2; Tatum & Spring Hill should be the top challengers but Canton's passing game might prove to be more potent than any of us realize. Don't forget about Daingerfield and never count out Atlanta, their competition would've knocked anyone else completely out but the Rabbs have been through this before.

I really hope we are fortunate enough to play WOS. Reading these posts it would seem that all WOS has to do is show up and they will win. Like I said in the prior post I really hope we are fortunate enough to make the play-offs and play against the best. Also, fyi grades came out and Palestine lost no starters to grades.......

You guys have got to learn that the 2 losses that WOS has are to A very good Jasper team in wk 1 for crying out loud and a loss to 4A #1 bay City. If you want to go by just shear win/loss record fine do that. I think it is flat out silly to think that WOS is not a top 3 team in 3a. I think this hate of WOS is borderline absurd.

Good to see you back Chief! It's been a while huh?
Well, I can respect that opinion, but you can't say we didn't try. Coach Traylor tried like Hell to schedule some serious opponents this year for the non-district schedule, but got turned down by everyone except who we got. What would you have us do?
As far as district goes, I have been preaching it as a "cakewalk" for some time now, and no one on this site has any illusions that district 13 is full of contenders.
Having said that, and having seen that one unfortunate soul in this thread actually has Spring Hill ranked above Gilmer, let me say this. "Anyday, anywhere!!" Gilmer will beat Spring Hill handily(considering the Panthers make the second round). Feel free to insert your Lindale and Pleasant Grove (OUCH!!) game comparisons here.
And I honestly find it surprising that you chose to attack our opponents' records. Spring Hill hasn't exactly played the "creme de la creme" of East Texas this year. And how many 4A schools has Spring Hill played so far?? It's okay! When Carthage and Tatum come calling, you might not be so concerned about Gilmer's opponents. Good job on your upcoming White Oak and Center wins though:clap: .

That is not true at all. Usually, WOS seems to do just enough to win. You will leave the game wondering how your team lost, saying if only this and only that..... They won't always beat you badly, they just find a way to beat you. And in the playoffs, that is all that counts. At least, for the most part, that has been Jasper's experience playing WOS over the years. Oh, like this year, Jasper makes a break-through, but usually it is once again trying to explain a loss. I expect the rest of 3a will see what I am saying as the year wears on.

the reason I say Gainesville is because they are the reigning state champs until someone replaces them. We should give them their due, because after all, how often does this opportunity come along for a program like Gainesville? Right Keith?

I think jody needs to go back into posting time-out. Is someone a little bitter towards these two? The only time I see these two school names under Jody's post is when she feels like punking the schools and being bitter. Thats just my opinion though.

Of course, I have to give West Orange-Stark the go ahead. Jasper beat them in a hotly contested game, but has not been able to keep the same level of play at any game since. I guess we will all know who the BEST is in December.

Already back in time-out? LOL I honestly do not think Jasper or WOS are as good as some people think. I know that is not a popular opinion, but I do not see anything about either team that makes them a top 5 team. Same goes for Cuero (weak schedule).

I used to live in Victoria, so I have to give Cuero their due. They are pretty good this year. :D If it knocks Jasper and WOS off of # 1 I am for it. :D

They beat Sinton (cuttos), but their defense may not test up to a better team than Sinton.
