School officials in Newton waited more than 30 minutes after the scheduled 7:30 PM kickoff due to lightning before making the cancellation. There will be no make-up game … No. 6 Navasota is 4-0 after a narrow 17-14 win over Texarkana Liberty-Eylau … Cameron-Yoe upset No. 7 Manor, 39-25. Cameron (4-0) led 18-12 at the half. Ryan Mikulec began the scoring when he connected from 25 yards out for his second field goal of the season. Then Curtis Hoyles scored from 59 yards out on a pass from Ryan Mullins. Ryan Mullins scored from 1-yard out three minutes later as Cameron recaptured the advantage just before intermission. Mullins ran 15 times for 73 yards, and made good on 17 of 22 pass attempts for 252 yards. Manor, which was ranked No. 7 after falling from No. 1 in the state, began the second half scoring when Williams, who had 287 yards and three TDs, threw his second touchdown pass, a 57-yarder to Anthony Swain. With score tied at 25, Shane Taylor scored the go-ahead and winning touchdown for Cameron on a 6-yard run with 4:20 to play. Mullins added another 6-yard run to put the game out of reach at the 2:07 mark … No. 9 Perryton is 4-1 after a 48-13 victory over Amarillo Caprock. Junior QB Case Keenum, who finished 10-of-20 for 148 yards in the and added 55 yards on the ground, said Wylie knew what it had to do in order to make the turnaround. "We knew we had to start playing better and bring it together," he said. "I think we did that. We came out and played our hearts out tonight."

UNBEATEN - BARELY: We labeled it one of the state's top games and boy were we right. Chris Daniels threw a 30-yard TD pass to Cedric Moore with no time left as the Barbers Hill Eagles beat Columbia, 27-21. With the victory, Don Price's Eagles go to 5-0. Barbers Hill led 7-0, trailed 14-7, went ahead 21-14 and then watched Columbia, now 4-1, come back to tie the contest at 21 with 1:12 remaining in the game. Barbers Hill's Dale Sexton returned the ensuing kickoff to the 41-yard line to get the Eagles off on the right foot. Quarterback Chris Daniels ran for five yards before the Eagles were penalized five yards. On the second play, Clay McWilliams broke for 29 yards to set the stage for the final heroic, coming as time expired.

OTHER 3A NOTABLES: RB Pat Williams provided the thunder and frisky teammate Torian Williams added the lightning as Connally stunned defending state finalist Marlin, 30-13, behind 22 fourth-quarter points. "This win is humongous," said Torian Williams, who dashed for 160 yards and a touchdown on just 13 carries. "This is a big boost to the program, and really gives us a lot of confidence." … Pilot Point erased a 14-point second half deficit and overcame five turnovers to post a 36-28 victory over TCA-Addison. QB Jarail Jackson led the way with 213 yards and three TDs on 24 carries, while Grant Guthrie added 125 yards on just 18 carries. TCA opened the scoring on an 84-yard INT return by Drew Clark, who would later score on a 22-yard fumble return. Preston Arnett threw for 263 yards for TCA … DeMario Thomas and the Longview Spring Hill Panthers spoiled festivities at Winnsboro and snapped the school's three-game win streak with a 44-15 decision over the Red Raiders. Thomas enjoyed his best night of the still-young season, rushing for 259 yards and scoring four TDs as the Panthers stretched their season-opening winning to five in a row …One week after rushing for a school-record 350 yards and seven TDs, QB James Mapps ran for 131 and two TDs as Royse City stunned Gainesville, 20-17. RB Terrius Purvey, who is slowed with an ankle injury, had only tw yards on six carries for Gainesville (2-2), which won the 3A, Div. I Texas Bowl last December … Caldwell played great defense and recorded a 158-yard rushing night by Kendrick Pittman to remain undefeated and notch a victory over La Grange, 26-10 …Huggie Frazier put a damper on Lindale's homecoming festivities by leading Daingerfield to a 40-35 come-from-behind victory. Frazier haunted the Eagles nearly every possible during the 3-1 Tigers rally from a 21-0 deficit. Offensively, he completed 14 of 24 passes for 219 yards and three touchdowns, while also rushing for 124 yards and an 8-yard TD. On the defensive end, he turned a Lindale fumble into a 23-yard touchdown return, and added the backbreaker in the final seconds by spoiling Lindale's comeback bid with an interception. The 2-3 Eagles, who have never beaten Daingerfield, appeared to be on their way to ending the Tigers' dominance by scoring three touchdowns during the first six minutes of the first half. Lindale running back Dwight King, who rushed for 137 of his 155 yards in the first half, stunned Daingerfield on the Eagles' second play from scrimmage with a 46-yard run …A serious last minute comeback attempt came up three feet short Friday night for Fort Stockton in a 14-12 loss to Crane. Panther quarterback Wayne Jefferson connected with J.J. Hickman for a 15-yard touchdown pass with seven seconds remaining to pull Fort Stockton within two.

But only on the all-important two-point conversion try, Jefferson dove headfirst into the heart of the Crane defensive line and was stopped a yard short. At the bottom of the pile was Crane's Manuel "Stumpy" Fox, a 5-feet 6-inch, 190-pound defensive lineman, who also came up huge in the first half … This is a habit the Diboll Lumberjacks would love to break. Two weeks after a late scoring run by Carthage downed the 'Jacks - and just one week after a last-second field goal by Barbers Hill did the same - Hamshire-Fannett's Byron Burnham repeated the feat, converting a third-and-17 play with a 42-yard touchdown run with just 2:22 to play in the game. The score provided the winning margin as the Longhorns handed Diboll its third straight loss, 21-18, Friday in Diboll. Burnham, who with teammate Jacob Picou posted 100-plus yard rushing nights, scored his game-winner shortly after his 85-yard scoring run had opened the third quarter. Burnham finished with 165 yards and two scores on 19 rushes, while fullback Picou rumbled for another 101 yards and a score on just 16 carries … Jermaine Dawson scored from a yard out in the fourth quarter and Matt Sanders ran in a 2-point conversion to give Rockdale a win over Hutto, 22-21 … Liberty Hill shutout Vista Ridge, 75-0. The Panthers (4-1) scored four touchdowns in the first quarter in running away from Vista Ridge. Liberty Hill, which normally carries only a varsity squad, started its junior varsity in the second half. Ryan Lawhorn led all rushers with 170 yards on nine carries, scoring five touchdowns. Matt Escamilla added two touchdowns and 129 yards rushing, and Casey Kocuiba had 119 yards and three touchdowns.

RELOADING BUCKEYES STILL ROLLING: Gilmer QB Manuel Johnson flung two TDs in the first quarter, and his defensive mates rebuffed an 11th-hour assault by their foe to ground the Pleasant Grove, 20-7. Gilmer ascended to 5-0 despite laying all those shows on the road. The Buckeyes finally performed on their own stage against Daingerfield next Friday. Gilmer, which outscored its first four adversaries 173-29, had by far its closest call Friday against the Hawks. Though they ingested 411 yards of offense, the Buckeyes rendered a fairly flawed performance, dispensing four turnovers and incurring 84 yards in penalties. It was insufficient to offset Johnson's heaving (17 of 32 for 218 yards) and hoofing (94 yards on 16 rushes.)
