Homecoming victory at Buckeye Stadium in Gilmer. It was 42-0 at the half. QB Derek McKenzie ran for five TDs and threw for one more before intermission and then took the second half off, along with most of the starters. We have a key player who is slightly injured who did not have to play tonight and we hope to be able to rest him next week against Rains as well.

A group of ex-players called "An Army of Buckeyes" (the title of our school song) was honored at halftime. This comprised honoring a player from each team from the Class of 1933 on up to 1992 that they could find one from in the area anyhow. Pre-1970, it involved also honoring any players they could find from the days when we had a very fine football team in Gilmer being fielded by the all-black Bruce High School called the Dragons. They were treated to barbecue before the game and then watched the Bucks barbecue the 'Jackets.

Dragons and Buckeyes, no place but Gilmer.

This photo is from the halftime ceremony last night. At left is defensive captain Jacob Dodd and at right is QB Derek McKenzie. They have just presented autographed game balls to the two older guys representing the ex-Gilmer Buckeyes and ex-Bruce Dragons. Coach Jeff Traylor is the tall guy in the middle.

Also here is a lengthier game account:

When is Gilmer going to play a top 25 team? Or have they already?

What do you mean? Top 25 when the season started or top 25 now. They are changing so frequently this year. Our schedule this year is as follows:

@ Gladewater W 59-6
@ Jefferson W 32-20
vs Wills Point W 42-12
vs Texarkana Pleasant Grove W 25-22
@ Longview Pine Tree (4A) W 29-6
vs Mt. Vernon W 41-0 (district)
@ Winnsboro W 56-30 (district)
vs Mineola W 56-6 (district)
vs Emory Rains (district)
@ Lindale (district)

At the beginning of the year, Pleasant Grove was ranked 11 in Collier-Sharp, and Lindale was around 20. Our pre-district schedule is the second year of a home-n-home deal with those teams (excluding Gladewater who we play every year). It's true our district is less than stellar, but blame that on the morons of the UIL. Why morons? One example: Pittsburgh and Gladewater are in the same district of which Gilmer is excluded. Pittsburgh and Gladewater both drive through the heart of Gilmer on Hwy 271 to reach each other. Gilmer is "smack dab" in the middle of those two cities, but is not included in their district. Again, MORONS!! Had to rant, sorry!
