DALLAS (AP) _ Chris Foster caught two touchdown passes for Southern Methodist, which defeated San Jose State 36-13 on Saturday night and snapped the nation's second longest losing streak.

Army, a 40-3 loser to Connecticut on Saturday, has the longest Division I-A losing streak at 18 games.

The 22 first-half points allowed by the Spartans (1-2, 0-1) were more points than the Mustangs had scored in any game during their 15-game losing streak.

Foster had touchdown receptions of 5 and 33 yards.

Tony Eckert, a junior college transfer, started his first career game at quarterback in place of the injured Chris Phillips. Eckert led the Mustangs to touchdowns on the team's first two possessions.

SMU's Foy Munlin had a game-high 114 yards rushing, including a 32-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.

The Mustangs put 36 points on the board after being outscored 103-7 in their last two games.

Backup quarterback Jerad Romo, who split time with Eckert, caught a 22-yard touchdown pass from wide receiver Matt Rushbrook on a reverse play in the second quarter.

Chester Coleman caught a 15-yard touchdown pass from Dale Rogers for the Spartans' only touchdown late in the fourth quarter.

Way to go SMU! Maybe tha new coaching staff will get the Mustangs back on track. San Jose St. usually puts out a decent football program, not as good as Fresno St, but pretty good.
