Trinity comes from behind 28-16 with 5 minutes left with two unbelievable no huddle drills to score twice. The final td came with 10 seconds remaining 4th and goal on the 9 yardline and Qb Dan DesPlaines (senior Tequesta FL.) hits WR Josh Kelner (junior San Antonio Churchill) for the game winning td. Des Plaines is the leading Qb in overall efficiency in all NCAA divisions going into this game. Trinity wins its first SCAC game on the road in Indiana to go 4-0 , 1-0. Way to go Trinity Tigers!!! NCAA DIII football at its best.:D

TRINITY FOOTBALL EDGES DEPAUW 29-28

GREENCASTLE, IND. – Trinity University senior quarterback Dan DesPlaines of Tequesta, Fla. (Benjamin School), fired a 9-yard touchdown pass to junior wide receiver Robert Kelner of San Antonio (Churchill) with 10 seconds on the clock as the ninth-ranked Tigers edged the DePauw Tigers 29-28 Saturday in a SCAC and NCAA Division III game at Blackstock Stadium.

The touchdown followed a scoring drive of 11 plays on 80 yards. The two-point conversion rush by junior running back Jerrold Jones of Katy (Katy) failed.

The Trinity Tigers (4-0, 1-0 SCAC), who have won the SCAC title 11 years in a row and now have a 7-0 record against DePauw, were down by 12 points (28-16) with 5:32 remaining in the game. But DesPlaines connected on a 25-yard TD pass to senior wide receiver Kolby Brailsford of Sugar Land (Clements) at 4:53. Senior kicker Todd Canion of San Antonio (MacArthur) kicked his second extra point, on three attempts. Canion began the scoring by booting a 20-yard field goal with 1:08 left in the first period.

DesPlaines connected on 26 of 40 passes (one interception, one sack) for 316 yards and three touchdowns. He rushed three times for 18 yards. DesPlaines also threw a 7-yard TD pass to Kelner with 46 seconds left in the first half, giving Trinity a 16-14 lead. Kelner caught nine passes for 104 yards and the two touchdowns.

Jones was the game’s leading rusher, with 23 carries for 98 yards and one touchdown. He scored on a 29-yard run with 6:29 remaining in the opening half.

DePauw (2-2 and 1-1 SCAC), which lost 26-24 to Trinity last year in San Antonio, was paced by junior quarterback Ross Wiethoff, who completed 10 of 18 passes (no interceptions, three sacks) for 180 yards and two touchdowns. Wiethoff hit junior tight end Chase Jonason with a 53-yard TD pass eight seconds into the second quarter. He also connected to freshman fullback Brett Claxton on a 5-yarder at 11:40 in the fourth quarter. Wiethoff rushed 16 times for 65 yards. Sophomore running back Jason Murphy had 20 carries for 77 yards and one touchdown (15 yards, 5:32 in the game). Jeremiah Marks, a freshman running back, scored on a 5-yard rush with 4:06 left in the second period. Marks had 45 yards on 11 attempts.

The Trinity Tigers accounted for three DePauw sacks. Sophomore defensive lineman Dustin Allen of Friendswood (Friendswood) picked up two of the QB sacks. He finished with eight tackles, including six solo. Senior linebacker Wacey Clarke of Grand Junction, Colo. (Fruita Monument), was the game’s leading tackler, with 16, including nine solo.

Trinity racked up 127 yards rushing and 316 passing for 443 total yards. DePauw had 193 yards on the ground and 180 in the air for 373 total yards.

The Tigers host Rose-Hulman in a SCAC game next Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at E.M. Stevens Stadium.
