In the 2004 Olympics there was a total of 203 countries that competed. Of the 203 countries 75 took home at least one medal. Even though not all got medals the main thing is the spirit of competition and friendship and representing your country to the best of your abilities. Congratulations to all world countries for your efforts.

Another interesting point is that even though the United States won more medals (and gold medals) than any other country it must be pointed out that had the old Soviet Union still been in place then the USSR would have won the total medal count (and gold medal count too).

But the European (EU) says that they won the Olympics. Just add up ALL of the EU medals. What a joke. All the individual and team sport winners should be admired though.

Of course the fallacy of this argument is that they were allowed many more participants than they limit of 1, 2 or 3 in each event with so many different countries making up the old Soviet Union.

Yes Hyper but they could have had the best top three athletes from the other countries including thier own increasing the chance of getting more metals than they did. For example, Lithuwana (spelling?) got 4th place in basketball but maybe with a couple of the Russian players they might have got a medal. That is just one example.

Hey shank I imagine Europe is mad because they are not the power in the olympics they once were. The Asian countries really showed them up so they are probably mad about that.

I am surprised that they didn't want to say Euro-Asian United Team. lol

Yes but I believe the the loss of participants in the individual events would more than out weigh what they gained in team events.

True Phil, but on the other hand they would have canceled out medals such as gymnastics where former soviet and russians both medaled. That rhymic nonsense was all soviet or former soviet medals.

Well check the record when the USSR existed. They won the total medal count and the total gold medal count usually.
