I think of a smash mouth team as a running team that has the mind set..."I've got the horses, and I'm going to run right over you, right now,and all night long." The best team of this type that I can remember was the Lewisville teams of 96'-97'. They ran the "bone" and went many games without even throwing a single pass.

I'm going to be a homer here and say we're in the smashmouth category.

Nope, just state champs in '87... lost to Daingerfield in the '85 championship and lost to Jefferson in the '86 championship...

Any Cuero team in the Mid 70's gets my votes, along with the mid 80 teams...

Sealy's a given... They had talented players, but not as much as the teams they were 'whupping'... they brought it!!!

Pastplaya, I don't know if I'd consider Sinton smashmouth anytime after about '99. They've been too multidimensional to focus on the run... just too many weapons and coaches that had no problem using those weapons in a passing attack.
Best smashmouth team I've ever seen up close was the Cuero team back in '95. Had a HUGE line, and this one kid at tackle (#77 if I remember correctly) who dwarfed Ingleside and at the same time was as athletic as just about anybody on any line. Probably around 6'6" 300#. To make matters worse, he had a kid named Clint Finley running behind him. Finley went to Nebraska and had a stint in the League. Dang, that was a scary team.

Gotta go back to the sixties on this one. Sinton 1962 and 63. Marler Brothers, Gerald Hesseltine, biggest line Sinton ever had. Three yards and a cloud of dust with a lot of bodies in the wake.

After what I have personally witnessed the last two weeks, Liberty Hill has my vote.

La Grange

La Grange in '97 behind Dave Campell coverboy Lawrence Dobbins. Took it to the semi's but lost to The Sealy.

If anyone saw Corgin-Camden play while they were 3a then you know what I am talking about. Their tunnel sweep was the nastiest play I have ever witnessed.

When I consider the Liberty Hill teams of late I conjure up thoughts of tough, mean, fast, wirey little guys who hit hard and often. They give no quarter and expect none. They play the whole game wide open to the fullest.

BUT, the '83 Daingerfield team has to be one of the toughest. They skunked something like all but two of their "victims"!!!!!

The 91 Burnet state-finalist team was smash mouth. Out of the Wishbone O, they had the QB, FB, and both HBs go over a thousand yards.

Yeah, but I wouldn't have called LaGrange smashmouth necessarily. Dobbins was more of a Barry Sanders type as opposed to a typical smashmouth runner. He was lightning quick with great moves. Plus, once Gunn became QB that year, you guys threw the ball a little more. I can't remember the kids name at WR, but he started that year at QB and became a real good receiver.

I actually saw the Corrigan/LaGrange game in Huntsville in '97 when CC had A. Harrell at RB. I think he had almost 3000 yds that year. If not for that ridiculous "fumble" the refs blew in OT, they could still be playing.

You know, I'd be willing to go out on a limb and say they skunked 'em all. The most anyone scored on them was 6. They posted 14 shutouts. Outscored their opponents like 600 (I forgot the exact number) to 8 (I know that number). They only allowed eight points that season!!!   No question as to who was the best.

P.S. What ever happened to the Collier-Sharp report? That website had everything about every team. Does anyone still keep in touch with Wes?

Daingerfield all-time greatest smash mouth team in 3A simply becuase their D was so fearsome....outscoring opponents 600 and something to 8....I made a post about it a long time ago.....they posted 14 shutouts and the 8 points they allowed were all on special teams...LOL they beat Carthage a 4A semifinalist that year like 35-6 I think..

Gotta throw in the 2001 Everman team as a smash mout squad as well...LOL (homer pick)
