Gainesville - 31, Forney - 10
GAINESVILLE – In a rematch of last year's Class 3A Division I state quarterfinal playoff, Gainesville used a strong first quarter and an opportunistic defense to defeat Forney 31-10 in Gainesville Friday.
Gainesville (2-1) scored 18 points in the first quarter thanks to a 75-yard touchdown run by Terrius Purvey, a 15-yard touchdown pass from Travis Sutton to Sergio Rodriguez, and a 51-yard field goal by Steven Arenas.
Forney (0-4), who has moved up to Class 4A this year had not scored a point in 11 straight quarters dating back to Week One until they scored 10 points in the fourth quarter.
Gainesville's defense forced three fumbles and the offense was able to convert all three into points. They had 239 yards rushing led by Purvey's 102 yards on just 13 carries. Jerome Hewitt added 99 yards and had an 80-yard touchdown run
