The 1995 season...

That year we lost to, you got it, Sealy, in the semi's 17-14 (I think)...

And I hear it's Sealy's homecoming, that really makes me feel good

:(

That's interesting Gobbla. Where do you get all your stats from? Do you know how many times these 2 teams have played at Tiger Stadium and the outcome tallies? What about when the games have been in Cuero?

I remember that one awful play in the 2000 game. Didn't we catch or touch the ball in our endzone for a safety or something?

I was at that game too in the Astrodome. I hated that Sealy beat you all. Would have liked for Clint Finley, Levar Jenkins and Co. to win a state title after having all that huge size and talent.

But what happened to you all in 1994 HAD to be done. Paybacks can be hell sometimes. 63-8...geez.

Only thing we could brag about after the game with PI was the only team in the state without a loss that did not win a state championship. 12-0-1.:D

I don't even remember who the kid was, but I remember the look on his face when he realized what he had done. My heart broke for him. As a mama, I just wanted to go down there and hug him. I bet something like that stays with you forever.

PI avenged the 1993 63 - 8 loss to Cuero.

Yes. Coach Monty Staumbaugh was an OC in Cuero but not until a year or two later did he come to cuero.

it seems like there are cuero ties all over the state.
-i have heard of a buddy comer that once coached in cuero coaching in lubbock a few years ago.
-ryan roark now at burnett
- another roark at a jr high in monahans
-one in arlington

no wonder cuero always competes well. good coaches produce good kids, but i am sure that its hard to keep competeing when coaches keep leaving.

Just a lil' correction. It was in the 3rd round, not state quarterfinals. After we tied Cuero and advanced, we played Bandera in the state quarterfinals, beating them 24-11. Then we lost to Sealy 34-13 in the semi-finals. :(

But yeah, Cuero was actually ranked #19 in the USA Today High School Football poll, and lil' ol Port Isabel rides up to Kingsville, TX and shocks the entire 3A world.

You all may not think it.....but us IBMs from Port Isabel can definitely hang with anyone. Even hung with a 5A a couple weeks ago. And I know for darn sure that 1994 Cuero team could have beaten a good 90% of the 5A teams that year.

Anyway, i'm headed out the door. Gotta go to a bud's place in Corinth, TX. Then we're driving up to Gainesville. Good luck to the Gobbs tonight against Sealy. (BTW, I still celebrate when Sealy loses) so kick their bums good tonight.

Now Cuero is No. 2 in the State and we have to play them in Cuero next week in Cuero. Just goes to show how tough and rough the Sinton schedule is this year as I have said. The roughest and toughest schedule in the state. And first we have to try to get past the Men of Troy tonight. Then face No. 2 (probably should be No. 1) ranked Cuero next week who will no doubt be 5 - 0 next week. Alas! :(
