View Full Version : How do you watch a game?

I'm trying to determine if there is much difference in how a game is watched by Players, Former Players, Non-players, Fans, Coaches, etc;etc;
I know that as a former player, I still watch the game through the position played. I'm still making my reads on players and react in my mind if I pick up on a key. It tends to make me Holler out, "Pass, Pass", or "Trap, Trap".
If the opposing team bust out on a big play and I see the brake down that allowed it to happen, I tend to voice that too.
Anyway, please, some feedback on how you are watching?

I look at it thru sort of a coaching perspective like I'll see the defense line up and I'll determine what I would have the team run in that situation, I dont know why I watch the game that way I guess I picked it up while being a bench warmer for so many years in high school

I have noticed that some posters can point to specific plays or trends in a game, while other state general reasons ( team speed, Coach's record) My question is about 3AAA football, rare to see on TV, Spirat, but I laughed anyway.
I'm just wanting to get a handle on how different people can watch the same game and come away with total different takes.
Some of you didn't say what group you were in.

From the fifty yard line, get up high so you can see.

I use to play, kinda... At first I'll look and try and guess what the offense may do, if the defense will blitz or what they'll do etc... then I'll watch it as a fan, just focussing on how well the defensive or offensive unit I'm cheering for will do...

On passing plays i like to watch the recievers down field, i think its because i've played so many video games

I watch very intently (sp?). As if every player on the field is my son! I yell for them as if they are mine. A lot of the time I do not know what kind of play is being run, other than a run or pass, but I watch and try to learn. I love football. I watch all football as if it were a championship game and MY boys are playing for the championship!:)

After being a member of the media for a few years, I tend to just watch the game as a fan and then think about tendencies after the game. Watching a game through a camera changes what you look at.

When you go and scout you see alot of different things and not just the person with the ball, because you have to look for those different things. If you think about it it is hard not to just watch the person with the ball.

I used to go and watch film with the team on Monday, because of weightlifting, and the Players that were the ones to watch I would focus on when game time rolled around, and see what Marlin would do to counter this player or stop these players.

When my boys were playing I focused on what they were doing, I also missed alot of the game that way.

Now, that no one plays anymore, I tend to focus on wherever the ball is....I seem to miss alot of the game that way too!!:rolleyes:

I usually don't watch the game. I sit in the stands and argue politics with whoever will listen.:D

Im pretty bad about watching a game and then pointing out the things that went wrong when plays don't work out. And I'm a screamer too. ;)
