Good question....

D2 is always tougher. In week one of the playoffs there are 64 D2 teams that have to compete for the crown, and only 32 D1 teams. And the only qualification to get into D1 is being the biggest school in your district. That means some ADM's of 600 will compete with ADM's of close to 900 in D1, while in D2 some ADM's of 400 will compete with ADM's of 800+. How can a field of 32 be a tougher field than a team of 64 when it's last man standing playoffs?

That is true D2 has the longer road to the title.

it depends, there are more good teams in division two, but i dont think either of the division 2 champs the past two years could have beat gainsville last year or everman the year before.

Hey Keith, isn't that what lobo said?

As far as D1/D2, it depends on the year. Back in 2000, when Gatesville won the D1 title, D2 was definitely better. Although D1 had a few tough teams in Everman and Abilene Wylie, D2 had the likes of LaGrange, Forney, Commerce, etc. That was the tougher division that year.

But in 2001, Forney went D1 along with Everman, Sinton, Bellville and several other tough squads. I think that from '01 to '02 you definitely had D1 years. Most of the district champs or the district number 2's were D1. Last year, though, it was a little bit of a tossup.

I watched both teams play some playoff games last year. I will go on record as saying this. If there was a team last year that Could beat Gainesville, it was Atlanta. I would have loved to see them play. Atlanta was a machine last year. But so was Gainesville.

Big Daddy R you are so right. In 2000 DII was definately the better division. For example, teams like La Vernia would most likely have beaten Gatesville in a head to head match up. La Vernia lost to La Grange 28-27 in a thriller in round 2 that year. They were the best team La Grange met in that march to the Championship, including Forney. I think most folks who were around back then would have picked Forney over Gatesville by 2 tds.

They should have it where the D1 and D2 plays after there so called state championship for the real state championship. And I promise you D1 will not win it every year.

i think that it would work they could just use d1 and d2 as two different sides of the bracket or just go back to two playoff teams and only one state champ

IMO, I think Div I is almost always tougher. There are years of exception, but year in year out it's Div I that's tougher. In 2002, Burnet loses to Everman in the Div I title game, after beating the Div II champ Bandera 49-14 two weeks before the playoffs, and it could've been worse. I think the number of tough teams might go to Div II because of the amount of teams, but I would say that 70% of the 'toughest' teams are in Div I each year.

I'd agree with that. The toughest D2 teams I saw that year were Aransas Pass and Marlin at pretty much a dead heat. Only saw Marlin once, and on a taped game, but they seemed a lot like AP. Extremely talented but never was consistent enough to put a title run together. All the other D2 teams I saw were maybe Round 1 material in the senior circuit.

D II without a doubt.

Heres my take, I would say that DII is a touger braket and its harder to ge to the title game, but i would have to say that the DI champ is usally the better team these past years.

D2 is tougher you have twice as many teams and a few of these teams are the so called teams which are there because of "a weak district" and supposedly have "nothing to lose" and they shock some teams. Also I'm from Sweetwater and we went out in the 3rd round in D2 while Wylie and Snyder went deeper in D1, with Sweetwter beating both these teams in the regular season, yes I am aware that they both got a whole lot better I am not saying that they didnt but thats MY biased opinion so I dont want ne one to get angry over this
