A little late with the score but for those few who may be interested heres a quick recap.

Cotulla moved to 2-0 for the first time in a long time on a lucky break. Cotulla got on the board in the first quarter with a field goal of 20 or so yards. Stockdale responded in the 2nd quarter with a punt return for a touchdown. Score at the half was 7-3 stockdale. Cotulla opened the second half with a strong ground attack that resulted in a touchdown. In the final 3 mins Stockdale recovered a fumble and seemed poised to score. A good drive led them to the 20, and on the next running play it seemed they would score. The ball however had a different plans, as it came lose at the 5 yd line and bounced into the endzone. Many a player jumped for the ball and it bounced all over until it stopped, about a yd out of bounds. The ref on the far side of it ruled touchdown stockdale, but after a discussion with the refs who had a better view point, it was ruled a touchback. And the game was saved as we ran out the clock on the following plays. Stockdales coachs were pretty upset, and refused to shake our coaches hand and in fact told him to get out of their face. Cotulla now turns to thier home opener against I-35 rival 2A Dilley, as both come in 2-0. This is always a good one.

First of all congratulations Cowboys!

That's not a good thing for coaches to do, what example are they giving the kids, to be sore losers?? What would they have done if it would have it been the other way around? Besides, what did the coaches have to do with what the refs call? Additionally, if the ball does go out of bounce, it's is a touchback, and so it's obvious to me that the refs, did make the right call.

Very true, of course they didn't have such a good view of the ball and it must have appeared to be a touchdown from thier prospective, but believe me it was out when they fell on it. The refs made the right call, but to get mad at the coach, thats just poor showmanship. Football brings out the best of us, and I guess shows how you really are. lol Either way I'll keep you informed on the 'boys season which I hope is a good one.

oh and by the way our mascot has changed again, I liked last years better but oh well, and if you made it to any of the games these last two years then you know our band wasn't exactly top notch even to the untrained ear, but the banda de la onda is back sounding great. Fajita tacos, dr pepper, and football at home is just around the corner.:D

What do you mean that the mascot has changed again, you mean the mascot's logo not the mascot right?????

And I will be going up there this coming Friday and I will get to catch the Dilley game. The game is in Cotulla right?? I plan to leave the valley around 2 to make sure I get there on time. What time does the gate open? My niece is in the band this year, so I look forward to that as well.

As in the mascot I mean the one that walks the grounds. lol you know that big head they put on someone every year. Just a different style cowboy, last year he had a mustache this year he doesn't. The gates should be open by at least 6:30 because thats the around the time the band usually would march around the track. Thats cool about your niece, she plays for a great sounding band, my sis is on the varisty cheerleading squad this year, so I've been excited for her too. Hope you have a fun time at the game!:D

What do you mean Cotulla doesn't have a great band. They have always had a great band historically. I remember once I was doing some work near the school about 14 years ago and I heard some band music coming from across the street and man it was outstanding. I even commented to one of the Cotulla workers how great their high school band sounded and imagine my shock when they said that was the junior high band!

Thanks Phil, sounds like you were working at the fairgrounds???
Due to low high school enrollment in general, I understand they have joined the jr. high or maybe just the 8th grade, with the high school, But yeah, Cotulla has been known mainly for the band. I recall my Junior year at halftime when we played Devine, the fans gave us a standing ovation and I could here people saying alright Cotulla" that year I was a member of the drill team, but we pulled double duty, and were part of the marching band as the rifles girls, you know we had those wooden rifles that you twirl,. It was our first year to do such a thing and we did well, ended up with a division one, but didn’t get to go to the state competition, as the competitions host town Hondo edged us out. Also we were one the first, if not the first in the whole area, to incorporate a base guitar to the marching band. The guys and directors rigged it, so that it was hooked up to a large speaker that was connected to a car battery. :) it was part of the percussion corp. It was cool cuz we were able to play those notes to “Another one bites the dust” by queen.

Hey Intocable Cowboy, I do look forward to the game and so is my hubby, we haven’t seen a Cowboy game for years, I think the last time I went was when my cousin Jarrett Ramirez was playing, and that was like in ‘99 or so. If you want to spot us, we will be the ones wearing the Tarpon T-shirts. ;) I will be sporting my new T-Shirt that my sis-in-law just got me, this past Friday. It's cool I like it, and its Friday and the Tarpons have an open.

On a side note we should start hearing about Cotulla more often as we start seeing those pee wee players get into Jr. High and High School.

Oh how is the favorite in this one? I know that Dilley is 2A but as usual when it comes to rivalries you can throw that out the window!

PhilC,
I in no way meant that band was never any good, I'm sorry if thats the way it came across. I was a member of the band when I was in HS, so I know the tradition it has. It had just hit a low (just a yr or so, but thats enough) when our director aburtly left, but now we have some great people involved with the band and have turned it around great so far. And back in the late 90's was when they has combined it with the 8th and 7th grade students due to low enrollment, but that went back to just HS students in 2000.

Football Gal,
Thats true about the pee wee players, the first ones that played are already in HS, my bro was one of the first pee wee players, he's a sophmore starting middle linebacker on the JV squad. Man time zips by.
I'll keep an eye out and give ya'll a wave if I see ya'll. It'll be hard to spot me I think with so many maroon shirts. Mine has a sheriffs logo star on it since I work at dispatch, I reguraly go with the police escort for the band and team to the away games. lol can't beat a free ride and entrance! oh and as far as a fav for the game Texas football ratings.com has Cotulla by 4, I havn't found another website with picks yet.

Wow, how times flies, It seems just like a couple of years ago that I had heard that Pee Wee football had started in cotulla. I will look out for you, like I said we will be wearing blue shirts so I am sure we'll stand out, as even Dilley will wear Maroon.

It's great to hear that the Cotulla program is doing good. The new coach they brought in has done wonders with that program.

Thanks CSWildcat

I always did say that it was the coaching that was the problem. The last time we had a good coach, was when we had Coach Tate in the late 70’s and the Boys did real good. Then he went to Carrizo Springs, did well there too, but the Boys starting going down after that. We had a very good volleyball program and again I contribute that to the great coach we had and one whom stayed in Cotulla for a long time, like the mid 70s, till the mid 80’s when she moved up to San Antonio. In addition, when I was in High school, in the early 80’s we had some very good athletes, good size and some speedsters, we won district in track a few times. So neither talent nor hard work was the problem, we kept getting coaches every year or at the most every other year. How were the boys expected to learn a new system every year or so??. But prior to that when we got to Jr high, the Jr high programs had been removed completely. So as Freshman the guys and gals were having to learn basics! Good thing that the Jr High programs were reestablished like in 84 or 85 and now the Pee Wee football program. Now they will have a fair chance of being competitive and succeed as well. Another plus is that Coach Booker, has stuck around more than 2 years, I think he is actually in his 3rd season, and that in itself, is a milestone for the ‘Boys. I am glad to see that the boys are having success & give the community something to be proud of!

Go Cowboys beat those Wolves.
