Vernon defeats 5A - 8th State Ranked Altus, Oklahoma. Vernon again looked horrible in the 1st quarter loosing two fumbles, giving away yardage on penalties, snapped a punt into the endzone for a safety. Lost contain on a punt and let Altus score on the runback. Terrible. Just terrible. Then the Austin Weitner led Lions woke up shook it off and stomped Altus. The offense racked up 15 first downs to Altus' 5. Vernon actually threw the ball and looked good doing it. Again, Vernon threw the ball!

Short takes:
Vernon rushed 47 times to Altus 25 times. Vernon also had a Weitner 80 yard run called back on a penalty.

Vernon's Qb Schur went 5-8 passing for 102 yards. Also had about a 60-yard TD pass to a wide as a field is long open receiver who dropped the ball!

Overall the Lions earn a B+

They started slow but it was evident that they have some talent. Both the DT's did a great job holding the Altus rushing attack to 188 yards.
