The offense will have to carry them to the Wild Card spot. All batters are hot right now. Everyone except Biggio is batting below their lifetime batting average so far this year so they all are due a lot of hits. Beltran's average is not great but he is hitting a lot of balls out of the park. Bagwell's average got down to an unbelievable .252 but now has raised it back up to nearly .270 over the past week.

The offense is so hot that Oswalt and Clemens both got wins last time out even though they both gave up at least 5 runs! How about Backe pitching 6 scoreless innings last night?

The Cubs pitching staff is bombing these last two weeks giving the Astros a chance.

If I wasn't a lifetime Astros fan, I would say their chances of getting the Wild Card spot were 20/80. But I always hold out hope and am thinking optimistically--the Cubs always seem to find a way to blow it!!!!!! (last year was an exception)

They should have been doing this all the time.

i hope they can get a late run and make it...i love the stros and root for them no matter how mad they make me...but since it's football season and i don't get home from practice until around 7 or 7:30, my wife doesn't let the t.v. even PASS a sports channel...
so, keep me posted here...
thanks and GO 'STROS!!!

I'm with you they should have been doing this the whole yuear, but better late than never. However I think with Phil Garner in the dugout they are doing some things they didnt do early in the season. Such as running the bases this is giving them more scoreing oppurtunities. Also have you seen the way Phil Garner reacts in the dugout he is very exciting and really loves being there and coaching and I think that rubs off on your team.

I think they can do it. They're flat crushing the ball the last couple of weeks.

That's good to hear! I have only caught a few innings here and there the past two months on TV and I have not seen Phil Garner in action. He was such a gritty player and I hoped his managerial style would be the same. If he's responsible for this turn, then maybe it's more than hot bats--it could be a whole new attitude.

By the way, the Astros play today @ 11:35 am central time. I usually set my computer on cbssportsline.com and get the written pitch by pitch there. Oswalt is pitching.

Another way to get the game is to goto http://houston.astros.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/index.jsp?c_id=hou
and then select gameday above the box score. This gives you pitch by pitch as well as who is batting and all the information you need.

I refuse to get excited. IF they make it in the wild card race, then I'll get excited. I've had too many disappointments with the Stros.

Kent hit a grand slam and Berkman also homered. Oswalt is now 10-0 lifetime vs. the Reds.

Report is that Oswalt left after the 5th inning with an injury. Anyone have more details?
