Why isn't the Rice Raiders in the top 25. They just came off of a big win against Sweeny which they dominated all game.

Didn't Sealy loose to a Giddings team that lost 28 seniors last year and has like 2 offensive and 3 defensive starters returning this year. I think that Bellville lost to a decent Caldwell team.

Hmmm...

All of these teams get my respect... But Navasota is the only 'real' arguement right now, Rice Consolidated 'could' follow...

But don't you notice that all of these teams are in the same 'area'?

He needs to get out more...

I see several teams that have no lasting power and will fade early. Keep an eye on Sweetwater, we have a young team with serious potential!

Sure, I think we should be in the top 25, but we have to prove ourselves....my thought about rankings: we will earn our top 25 spot. Besides the polls don't make the team sure its nice to be recognized, but its even better to be recognized at Texas Stadium playing for the 3a Championship trophy. Recongition will come, wether it be in the ranks, or at the end of the year.

Sealy and Bellville both lost...Navasota and Rice Consolidated are on the border of being in the Top 25 just not there quite yet

I was surprised to see Kirbyville not ranked in the top ten of region 3. I've seen these guys play a little the last two years and they are legit. You win with defense and the Kirbyville defense will be one of the best in the state this year. IF they stay healthy, I believe they will be in your top 25 by week 5.

Yes, Rice did beat a very average Sweeny team Friday night. Give them credit, but don't confuse this Sweeny program with the once proud all-around powerhouse of the '80s & early '90s. There are major problems going on there & the natives are restless. Sweeny also lost their talented junior qb Blake Williams to a broken left collarbone & it got ugly. But Rice plays hard, has 2 top DEs, & has some speed. Nice job in Altair of bringing back a once near-dead program. Williams (P/Inf) should be fine for baseball though - top Newcomer last year & throws low 90s now. Shaping up to be tough district with Sweeny, Wharton, & WC. Can you tell where I think this football season is heading??

Needville has more firepower than Sweeny at this point and will take the last playoff spot....

Neck,

I was referring to the district as a whole, specifically this coming baseball season. When did they quit teaching reading / comprehension in WC? Read my post again & see what I was inferring, or referencing as I spoke objectively about baseball & the doom of this football season. You might try reading closely before jumping on key words. And, Needville hasn't had any firepower since the Wilkinson brothers left years ago. Sweeny no doubt has problems as I said. But the battle for the last playoff spot is a moot point. Too many teams make the playoffs now & water it down anyway, IMO. You can win 2 games & get in. Sweeny will be back in time, & WC will still be Scrub C. Mark that down & enjoy it for now. Nice new gym floor too - is that some type of tile dance floor? And go watch the baseball games in the spring - I have worked as a scout for years & y'all won't touch the Williams kid. See for yourself if you doubt me. Have a good one buddy.

Once again:
"Shaping up to be tough district with Sweeny, Wharton, & WC. Can you tell where I think this football season is heading??"
Look, you gave an opinion on where the season was heading and I simply gave mine to you, then you get upset and attack me for it??
I realize you are upset that Sweeny lost their QB for the 3rd year in a row, but I did nothing to deserve that garbage you dished out...
If you want to verbally spar with someone, try necks3, he's young enough to enjoy it...I'm too old for it anymore...

stangcenter60 -- #5 Eric favors the starting HB who really won the game against Sweetwater last year did not play in that scrimmage. He is a game breaker.

Hope that Sweetwater and Vernon can meet up again.

I guess you played JV last year and didn't have to face him. He is the one that scored the Vernon TD and also knocked the pass away from Montgomery on the last sustained mustang drive. He will go DI and he plays both ways so he really makes a difference. If your opinion of Vernon is unfavorable that is fine. Just remember that he wasn't playing. As far as the rankings go, Vernon is unbeaten and deserves at least the #9 ranking.

i understand all of that but still he doesnt make the team himself...everyone thought the same thing about micheal carillo and we were just fine without him....besides if the team relies on him to carry them through every game then i feel sorry for them...not becuz i think they r gonna do bad cuz i honestly dont know how they r gonna do....but becuz it sux bein on a one man team if ur not that one man...i think that they will eventually meet a team that will be able to stop him and then they will be in a bind.....I DONT MEAN TO BE RUDE AT ALL AND IM SRY IF IT SOUNDS LIKE IT....

Two things Mustang 60:

1) Sweetwater got the better of Vernon in the scrimmage no doubt about it. The mustangs came to play and Vernon didn't look good. I think Sweetwater will have a good year. I was surprised to see them fall to Cooper, not that it means anything but I was surprised nevertheless.

Carrillo looked very good in the scrimmage as well as Thompson. The o-line did a good job blocking and seemed to stay with their blocks.

2) Last Friday Vernon ripped 8th ranked class 5A Altus, Oklahoma. Vernon looked like the team of last year. The defense held the rushing attack to 78 yards. The offense churned out long drive after long drive. The week prior Vernon beat Springtown (middle of the road 4A team) even after having 5 turnovers. They took one drive 99 yards. The next several weeks will tell much about the lions as they play Wichita Falls High and Abilene Wylie.

I think that the Lions didn't impress you in the scrimmage. They didn't impress me either, but last Friday they looked very good. Good enough to earn a top ranking.

If I went off on you, then I am sorry. My anger lies with the direction of Sweeny's program. I don't live there but keep up from a far. They have more problems than losing the qb (again). I think he would help, no doubt, but the root of their problems goes much deeper. I played there years ago & we won lots of games in all sports. Things have changed & not for the better. Lane is a good coach & good guy in WC, but I doubt you keep him there if he does well. I see him moving on to a school district with more resources. That gym floor is bad - a buddy of mine coaches in WC & I saw it last year. It is borderline dangerous. I hope WC does well. Lots of good people there. Go see Williams throw in the Spring - he will go big time. I had him on my gun at 91 mph with movement as a 16 yr. old this summer in Houston, & his breaking ball is getting there. He needs to fill-out his body, but he has a golden arm. It may be a blessing that he is hurt, because he is risking injury. I am told he wants to continue playing football though. No hard feelings & good luck. Those boys in Needville were "Wilkerson" that I referred to, Davis & Willie. Good talent but not the grades. Take care.
