************************************************** **From the Dallas Morning News:

In a match-up of one team playing its first varsity game and another that has made the playoffs the last two seasons, experience won out in big fashion.

Hillcrest racked up 325 yards on the ground and took advantage of five Carrollton Ranchview turnovers in a 48-7 win at Franklin Field. It was the first win for new Hillcrest coach Clayton George, who was the offensive coordinator at Southlake Carroll.

Hillcrest dominated all phases of the game from the start of the first quarter. On Ranchview's third play from scrimmage, Hillcrest's L.J. Williams recovered a Carrollton-Ranchview fumble and ran 28 yards for a touchdown. Thirty-eight seconds later, Hillcrest recovered another Ranchview fumble, and two plays later Tommy Bryant scored from 15 yards out and the rout was on.

Using its superior size on the lines, Hillcrest made ample running lanes for running backs Izale Williams, Tommy Bryant and quarterback Chris Gilbert. Williams led all rushers with 179 yards, including a 70-yard fourth quarter touchdown in which the senior broke five tackles.

Hillcrest quarterback Kenny Gibbs left the game in the third quarter, giving way to Gilbert, who ran for 51 yards and a touchdown and also had a 20-yard touchdown pass to Roger Young. Hillcrest was flagged for 12 penalties for 155 yards.

Ranchview was never able to find a rhythm on offense, finishing with 169 total yards. Running back Shaka Harris had a 34-yard touchdown run to make the score 14-7 in the second quarter.
