If you aren't listening to the game, Jasper is up 7-0. Jasper scored on firts possession. WOS drove down to Jasper's 28 and turned the ball over on downs. Jasper is now driving down the field... 20 yard pass for a TD.

Jasper 13 WOS 2.

WOS blocked PAT and brings it back for 2 pts.

Jasper intercepts and takes it in for the TD.
2 pt conversion fails.

Jasper 19 WOS 0

Still 1st quarter

Make that Jasper 19 WOS 2

WOS returns ball from kickoff to Jasper 38.

First and goal at the Jasper 1. Uh OH!

WOS TD.

WOS goes for 2. Failed.

Jasper 19 WOS 8

Missed some of the game... had to go see why my weather radio kept going off. There's a tornado warning 40-50 miles southeast of here. Not heading this way.

Jasper is inside the WOS 9. First and goal.

Jasper fumbles but recovers.

Jasper fumbles again and WOS returns it to the 40 or 50... they fumble and Jasper gets it back again. OH MY!

Jasper's driving 1st and 10 at WOS 26

WOS takes over on downs on their 26

I must have missed something when I got up.

Jasper has the ball. Jasper on the WOS 33

Jasper fumbles, recovers, and takes the ball into the endzone... but flags are everywhere. 2:40 left in the half. Jasper blocked below the knees- no TD. Ball goes back to original line of scrimmage.

Jasper runs down to WOS 19.

Jasper turns the ball over on downs on WOS 11.

WOS will run out the clock.

WOS defense has been pretty tough in the red zone. Even so, Jasper is moving the ball better than I expected.

Are you going to update? My computer bogs down bad when I try to listen and run the downlow. I can post, but it takes me a while. Did you hear Silsbee was shutting Liberty out 22-0? Good for them!

Nope, no braggin' about this one. We got lucky the time ran out. BUT, I never said this, but I didn't expect us to win this one. Our first half sounded almost polished, though. I think we got tired. We must need some more conditioning. I have a good feeling about this year! I think the mistakes we made are things we can overcome.

dont think jasper let it get close with turnovers the mustangs had five or six theirselves it was just an overall sloppy game and i dont know what they called on the last fumble somehow jasper got it back where they started but no flags or anything and still first down dont know what the last call was or could have been a different outcome.

WOS92
08-27-2004, 11:42 PM
Great game, dogs! It was a tight one there at the end, in typical WO-S fashion. We're never gonna overwhelm you on offense, but we'll hang around. This time, we just fell short of the comeback. The plays of the game were the fake punt and the Jasper QB catching our DB on what would've been a fumble return for a TD.

Keep in mind, our first-ever game in 4A was a 20-something to 8 loss to Jasper in 1986. We still managed to go all the way that year. So nothing has really changed in my mind. I expected a tough game, and I've said in posts before that Jasper had a very good chance of beating us.

Our next two games are just as brutal - if not moreso. Next week we have Nederland, who crushed Texas City tonight. THen we have Bay City.

If you're counting us out already, you're making a mistake! :D

Unfortunately for Jasper, with the offense you guys run and having that ball flying around so much I think turnovers will be a factor all year. You guys have some very good backs but with the exception of your QB, they all play both ways. Running wide 70% of the time and playing defensive backs, fatigue is going to be an issue. They will get in better shape than they are now, but no one can run side line to side line all game. Running the option from shotgun with the fatigue factor, I think your going to see a lot of turnovers. The ball can't fly around that much when those boys can't catch their breath.

You might be right. One thing noticeable was that both teams had the shotgun, but WOS did not stay in it 100% of the time. Jasper never got out of it. When they needed a foot near the goal and I was expecting to see a goal line offense, they were in the shotgun. They start 5 yards or 7 yards behind the line of scrimmage just to get an inch or two? Incredible. If they had a few plays under center, it might stop some of the fumbles in the red zone. Heaven help Jasper if they play in the rain.

I agree, also when they were in control of the game toward the end of the first half, up 13-2, I would probably have gone under center. Not only to give the boys some blow, but it's less risky. They really need to do something other than spread 100% of the time. Now I see why the last couple of years they would score 50 and give up 35.

While all your comments have alot of merit, the fact remains we won wos lost, we have alot of room to improve but as far as the spread offense goes we have been to the semis lat two years with it and let me tell you Moye our Soph QB will only get better with playing time and he is better than what we had last year. We will go far this year and I have a feeling that if the team stays healthy mistakes will be less and the outcome of the game may be no different. Just my opinion and we all know what they are like

I don't understand why you can't put in a goal line package just for a QB sneak to get that one foot. Surely it isn't too hard to work on hiking the ball for when you need it. I have seen numerous times the last 3 years where I thought Jasper would benefit from it.

Only if you can count sweat as rain. Probably amounts to the same thing. Not only do they long snap, they pitch 10 yards on the option plays. Impressive when it works,as in a long gain which Jasper was able to do.
