Why is Celina so low? Last time they were in 2A, no one could beat them!

I think it's sketch to make the first reply to your own post. :D

But Celina is low because a.) no G.A. and b.) no G.A.

Didn't their coach go back to Pilot Point last year? If so, that might account for the ranking.

and they've had average seasons the last two years...they have to prove themselves at the 2A ranks again...

Yea, they were beaten recently by a 2A team. I think it was in 1997. They also only won their last 57 games in 2A and the last four State Championships when they were there. They only managed a meager 21-3 run in their two years in 3A, so my guess is they are ranked low because the sportswriters are STUPID.

Ive heard that they didnt look too good against Glen Rose. Maybe the sportswriters know something we dont, b/c I would think that Celina would have their way with the Tigers.

Go Deep,

Celina has never made it a point to look good while practicing other teams. The use scrimmages for what they are. To look at kids they want to see. I don't think the results of a scrimmage game count for much, but 78-3 in the past 81 games is not too shabby.

if WOS can be ranked #1 in 3A with out even makin the playoffs the past 2 years after moving down..
and if you use the same logic
then Celina should be #1 in 2A after winning a district title and making it 2 rounds into the playoffs 2 years in a row in 3A..

I looked up Celina's history with the six teams ahead of them in the top ten.

They have only played Holiday, Garrison, and WhiteWright in the past, but here are the records.

vs Holiday 3-0 PF 82 PA 29
vs Garrison 1-0 PF 41 PA 35
vs WhiteWright 7-2 PF 210 PA 87

Overall 10 wins 2 Losses

Points for 333
Points allowed 151

I agree completely. Based on their performance in 3a, they should definately be ranked high in 2a. But, like I said, I was told that both lines, and the defense as a whole, looked pretty sloppy. Could be since it was just a scrimmage. Could be b/c they're young. Could be b/c this will be a down year for Celina. Who knows? I was just throwing a theory out there. Ive also heard that there have been some discipline(legal) problems with some of the Celina kids lately. I repeat, this is ONLY hearsay. Could be 99% false (I know it applies to at least one kid b/c I got this info from his parent. But, it could very likely be an isolated incident). I thought maybe the absence of GA Moore was the reason.

Yeah, Maybe a down year, but you have to go back eleven years to find a season they didn't win ten games or more, so I guess "down year" is a relative term.

I would rate them #1 Newton #2 Garrison #3 Celina How would you rate the top three?

PPHSfan

I would rank Celina number one on the simple fact that they have not lost a game in 2a since 1997.

I would still rank Celina number one in the preseason 2A poll even if Galena Park Northshore dropped this year with them. You can't argue with their success in 2A period.

Unfortunate weekend for Whitewright, as they lost their star RB after he broke a team policy (a big one).

The Tigers went from serious state contender to most likely an average playoff team. My roommate is from WW, and they're pretty upset. I've seen this kid run, and he had star written all over him, but if he doesn't take care of his business off the field, there's not much you can do.

Go Tigers!!

How about this:

Childress a 7-3 team from 3A last year (Didn't make the playoffs due to Graham, Vernon and Iowa Park beating them) hung somewhat like a 27 point spread on Holiday last year in nondistrict play.

Childress is so underrated it is laughable. I hope to catch the Childress / Holiday game this year, I bet it will be the same result as last year.

Again, using the same logic that people use to make WOS number one.. This should make Childress number 1 in 2A as well..

PPHSFan was right.. the Sports writers are stupid
