Olympics Updates - August 24, 2004

10:45 A.M. (6:45 P.M. in Greece)

Lots of preliminaries and no medals given yet today or else it hasn't been reported on yahoo news so alas there is nothing to report.

Some key games are scheduled this Thursday. One is the USA men's basketball team is playing Spain at 6:30 A.M. Spain is considered the top team and is undefeated in olympic play so this is a major test for the men. Will they make it? This game will tell us. Kate Smith was lost from the women's team but Diana Taurisa came off the bench and did a terrific job.

Also on Thursday our women play Brazil for the gold at 1:00 P.M. in what should be a loaw score with pleanty of dirty play. We will see

They haven't got the gold medal totals changed but our beach volleyball team of McPeak and Young took the bronze. We also have a team playing for the gold! It would be nice to have a gold and bronze in this event. GO USA!

The USA women won the women's beach volleyball championship for the gold metal. May and Walsh won it in three straight sets! Way to go Ladies! GO USA!

2:40 P.M. (10:40 P.M. in Greece)

Today's events should be over and hopefully we have correct updated totals. Thanks to the USA women's volleyball team winning the gold the USA leads in total gold metals 24 to China at 23. The USA leads in total metals of 68 to China's 50. Hopefully more will follow for the USA tomorrow. Basically there are now 4 more days of olympic competition left since Sunday is the concluding ceremonies. By my system we have the following:

1. USA with 556 points

2. China with 422 points

3. Russia with 330 points

4. Australia with 296 points

5. Japan with 276 points

6. Germany with 238 points

7. France with 200 points and the rest of the World follows

China really went out for these olympics in the events they are strongest in and since the olympics are in China in 2008 look for them to work hard to make a stronger showing in their country.

They must not have posted the beach volleyball scores as reported in my prior reply! I don't know what other American won a gold metal to get us to 24 but as of right now based on the yahoo news the USA has 25 gold medals to China's 23 and we lead everyone with 70 medals! On my point system we now have 574 points! GO USA! :)

China gained another gold and is one behind the USA with USa has 25 and China 24 in Gold Metals. USA leads China in total metals at 71 to 51. USA now has 582 and China 432.

Man did yall see the Men's 400 meter run? That was amazing! The U.S.A finished in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. Hell of a job by those amazing guys.
