SLPYBEAR WEEKLY PICK'EM -- Week 1 - Jasper vs WOS

Okay, the slpybear ain't smart enough yet to know how to combine more than one question in his poll. So, the weekly pick 'em game will have to be a seperate thread until I can figure that one out.

The first game to pick this year is Jasper vs. West Orange-Stark. We have heard all about these schools on the 'Low. Now it is time to tell us who will win this interesting week one showdown.

I wouldn't even begin to try to predict the outcome! It should be a tight game, but could also be a blowout by either side. A lot depends upon whether one team gets on top quickly forcing the other to play catchup. One thing for sure, both teams will be ready to rumble! :)

I think both of these teams will do very well this year...

In this game I see Jasper welcoming the Mustangs to 3A in a not-so-friendly style...

I can't wait til Friday. This is what it's all about. Both teams will play well and it should come down who makes the big play late in the game. Turnovers will decide a game that could go either way. I'm picking Jasper in a mild upset 19-14. :)

yes, the game will be on kogt and can be heard on www.kogt.com. I will not predict who will win, but I think the score will be 7-0 one way or the other.

I hate to say it, but I don't think Jasper has a strong enough defense to keep the score that low. Nederland supposedly moved the ball very well the other day. I would be very encouraged if it was a low scoring game that went either way as I'm more concerned about the Jasper's defense at this point. The offense usually scores well under Lauve and I don't expect any different this year against most of the teams on the schedule. As they say, defense wins championships and I expect Jasper's defense to dictate their success this year.

Dawgs 17-10... Just a friendly note to anyone predicting Jasper's score's this year...I wouldn't put any stock in a field goal for Jasper. We haven't had a good kicker in what seems like an eternity.

I think it is perhaps part wishful thinking by some 3a'ers. When Jasper dropped down from 4a there were many who picked against Jasper just because they didn't know anything about Jasper. Now it is WOS's turn. Old time Jasper fans know how tough it is going to be for Jasper to pull out a victory, especially since the game will be in Orange. :(

There usually isn't much doubt who the underdog is in the series between Jasper and WO-S and it's usually the Bulldogs. I wish it weren't that way but it's actually kind of fun because Jasper historically has a decided edge over almost everyone else they play regularly in Southeast Texas. :)

IMO, the poll just shows that a lot of people want the new face in 3A ranked # 1 to lose, which is the way it should be. I'd be the same way. Win or lose the game will be great for both teams and will go a long way in preparing us both for the season!! Jasper, good luck to ya'll, and let the battle begin. It will be a classic.
