Can't make the scrimmage. Good luck to the Lions. Who do they have returning this year?

Thanks CatDad. The Lions should have a great year. The most notable returnees are the QB, RB, WB who all will be three year starters this year. Also Vernon brings back a safety and corner wich both were key in defeating the Decatur passing attack last year. Not to mention two starting linebackers and several linemen both offensive and defense. Really the Lions are loaded this year. It will be the second year under Coach Hall and his system, so the learning curve sould be shorter as well.

However, Vernon has to pass the ball or at least be able to. Teams like Graham, and Wylie will not let the Lions just run up and down the field so they have to be able to go to the pass to soften up the defense if they want to make a serious run at the championship. I'm not sure if Kennedale is like this or not, but the entire town of Vernon is expecting this team to win it all and that is a lot of pressure on these young men. Not sure how that will play out or if this team suffers a loss early what the effects would be. Only time will tell.

Great scrimmage. Both of these teams looked very good. Sweetwater takes it 2-1. Sweetwater used the passing game and looked very crisp. These kids came to play tonight. The Sweetwater players were pumped. Vernon on the other hand looked lethargic. They did pick it up after the first set of 20 plays though. Both defenses looked tough as well. Sweetwater has the big play possibility at any time, whereas Vernon moved the ball in smaller chunks down the field. Both teams have size and speed. Although Vernon did score on a pass, the long ball is non existent and that will be a problem later down the road. Sweetwater executed the option very well against Vernon's defense.

Lots of penalties, fumbles, and interceptions.

Most notable players:

Sweetwater
Jeremy Thompson (passed and ran well)
Kendall Carillo (Made some huge hits, caught a bomb, and ran like the wind)
O-line (Held their blocks very well)

Vernon
Chris Zamora (Made huge plays on defense and broke a nice run 40 yard run to end the scrimmage)
Lee Bodine (Made several big plays on defense)
Trey Schur (Interception as corner and several nice runs of over 20 yards. However, his passing has to get better)

Notable Injury:
Vernon's HB/CB Eric Favors did not play due to a sore ankle.
