China has gained on the metal count on USA with USA leading 29 to 25. The worse thing is that they gained a gold medal on us at 12 to 10. Hopefully we can close the cap again today like Hamm's great comeback in gymnastics yesterday! What a fighter! By my systems the top five scores are:

1. USA with 234 points

2. China with 214 points

3. Australia with 134 points

4. Russia with 128 points

5. Japan with 116 points

Hopefully some of our boxers will help us out before the track events. Our tennis players didn't help us out as Venus and Roderick are eliminated and I am not sure our "Dream Team" will even medal this year in men's basketball.

I agree with you Phil about track. I think once that starts we will run away with it as far as medal count goes.

I think so too Cat. Let's just hope we can stay close like right now so it will be easier.

Oops! China has gained another medal on the USA but I am not sure what event. They have been doing well in shooting. They got a silver and trail the USA by three medas at 29 to 26. The USA still leads in points totals (by my system) 234 to China's 222. GO USA!

I was really surprised to hear this morning that Hamm won the all around. I went to bed thinking he wouldn't medal at all.

Our swimmers have really come through for us today! We have gained on China in number of gold medals and are just one behind again at 14 to 13. Overall we have more medals than China at 34 to 28. By my system the top five teams are:

1. USA with 278 points

2. China with 220 points

3. Australia with 134 points

4. Russia with 128 points

5. Japan with 116 points.

The 2008 Olympics will be in China. From the results so far it is obvious that they will be working hard so they can dominate the Olympics in their Country so our athletes have work to do but that is ahead of the story. GO USA!!

In swimming today one of our gold medal winners got disqualifed in the men's 200 m backstroke by an official that said he made an illegal turn. The USA appealed it and upon further review the judgement was overruled. Whew! You sure have to be careful there.

Great news! Carly Patterson of USA won the women's gymnastic gold medal. Yo Go Girl! This now ties us with China for total gold metals at 14!! USA still leads in overall medals with 35 to China's 29.

As of now USA leads China by the score of 288 to 248! GO USA!!
