Crandall coach Randy Barnes hates scheduling easy nondistrict games. Just won't do it. While his teams may suffer a few early losses, they have made the playoffs the last six seasons.

"The best years we've had here, we started off 0-3," Barnes said. "You have to play against champions to learn what it takes to be a champion."

Last season, an experienced offense led the team to the playoffs, but its young defense prevented it from advancing past the first round. This fall, the offensive line has four new starters.

This season, his 3-4 defense has 10 returning starters. Three-year starter Jonathan Williams, a senior defensive tackle, leads the front seven.

"We believe that this can be the best defense we've ever had here," Barnes said.

I think Crandall is a phenominal pick for #7. Any higher and I'd expect them to actually win a playoff game...LOL!

They won't - naturally!

The article in the Dallas Morning News also had Crandall's schedule in it...two of their nondistrict opponents are Madison and Pinkston  ...If those games aren't going to be easy, then Crandall has no business being in the top ten in any poll. Maybe Madison will field a team this year, but Pinkston is about as sad a story as there is in high school football. A couple of years ago, Forney head coach Kevin Rush was asked how he felt about having a bye week in the middle of the season, and his response was, "Actually, we have two bye weeks...there's this week (which was the real bye) and then next week is Pinkston.":D
