I really enjoy old football pictures and have found a few here and there. If you have any, post them up here. It would be neat to see famous people during their high school years, but really, any old-school picture would be appreciated.

Here is one of my favorites:

Bonus points for anyone who can name the athlete. :)

Is it OJ?

Well let's examine the evidence provided to us. The helmet design looks early 1970s, and they are playing on Astroturf. Who are the teams that are playing? No helmets are clearly visible for identification; however, the player being hurdled is wearing the traditional Georgia Bulldogs pants with that red/white/black stripe which gets us into the SEC. As far as the home team, the colors of Miss State could be considered except that MSU wore white helmets in this era. Arkansas was in the SWC at this time, but that could very well be a Razorback logo on the jersey sleeve. Arkansas does not put the jersey number on the shoulder pad, leaving only a sleeve logo, so I will nominate the 'Hogs as a home team candidate. Arkansas also had astroturf during this era. This is a non-conference game, and also could be the Cotton Bowl, however the stands seem to rise to quickly making me think this is a home game at Arkansas's stadium. ....Now, who would be an athletic RB from Arkansas circa 1970?

Although a RB, it is not OJ; and he did play in the SWC, just not for Arkansas...

Little Joe, that's right! He was from PA Lincoln, and in the picture he is playing for OU, where he would eventually be a two-time Heisman runner-up. What's interesting is on the OU site, there's another picture of him doing the same thing to another player. Check it out:

He was just flat-out awesome!

I did a search for 'Cuero Gobblers' at google.com a couple of years back and came across a website of this family... It had pictures of family members etc... This picture includes one of their family members, Wayne Bowen (#37)... I wonder what year it is... I'm guessing in the 40's or something....

Here are the Gobblers (well, some of 'em atleast):

Man, that's a neat picture!!!

The little kid in the front is classic -- holding the ball, sitting with the team, wearing a helmet, and wearing a "jersey." :)

Well, I came discombobulated on that guess. I'm still thinking Frank Broyles....

Okay, who is this? The #26 later set an NCAA record for career interceptions? What kicker would he be holding for in this timeless classic photograph? :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Yes, that would be WOS vs BC..

That #26 would be Kevin Smith, later of Texas A&M and the Dallas Cowboys. Too bad you can't quite read the jersey number on the kicker....You might ask GS#17 if he can make out the jersey.:D

As an even more random side note to that Cuero pic, I wonder if Wayne Bowen is of any relation to Wade Bowen? Wade is an up and coming singer out of Waco that just came on the "Texas Music" scene last year. Check him out @ www.wadebowen.com

Yes, that's Kevin Smith holding for me. I think the caption says something about me making 5-5 PATs against Bridge City or something like that. It's from the yearbook.

ChainGang, for the record, the technique only looks bad because of the camera angle and the lighting, and those shoes have since been dipped in gold and placed in the school's trophy case to inspire future generations. ;)

Those Jersey's were Cornel Thompsons favorites. After he left in 01, I belive hooks didnt use them as much. I loved them because they were so cool. Especially in the first few months when it was still hot. Watch for them more this year now that CT is back.
