It could happen. Anything is possible when Newton and Jasper play.

Newton could also be 16-0.:D Newton will have a real test with WOS and Jasper and we know it. However, this should be one of our better teams in several yrs. We only lost 2 on defense and picking up a lot of size on offense, plus it looks like we may have about 30+ kids out for varsity. For the last 3 or 4 yrs we have averaged about 20-23 kids. You can bet that we won't roll over for Jasper or Wos and Barbay will have them ready to play.

During my varsity stint, we would play Newton the first game of the season. They always brought their hat and in my opinion played better than most of the 4A schools we played. They were always very well coached and verywell diciplined. With that combination, it is hard not to be successful. They moved down to 2A but that doesnt mean the caliber of their team has gone down any. No matter if they win 2A or not we will always respect them when we play them.

Out of all the years that we played WOS we never beat them. The only time we came close was in '98, the yr we won state and we lost by 3. I think.......

I can't speak for the rest of the state but here in this part of east texas Corrigan, Garrison, San Augustine, Alto or Hemphill might be able to give newton a good game.

I think Newton has a real good shot at it just like wo-s has,but they will face the same problem as well....some very good teams in the playoffs.

Very good chance that Newton will be Div 2 because there are two other schools in our district with higher enrollments and at least one of them will make the playoffs. After we play WOS and Jasper back to back, we then play San Augustine and will see what our local 2A competition has.:D
