How do you score this play?

This happened a few years ago in a Texas A&M football game:

Aggie QB Dustin Long throws a pass complete to the receiver. As the receiver nears the goal line, he fumbles at the one yard line. The ball bounces on the ground, and is picked up in mid stride by the fullback. The fullback runs the last one yard ( actually dives) into the endzone for a TD.

It's a touchdown for Texas A&M, but how will it show up in the stats?

How do you score it?

-Does the QB get a passing TD or just merely a completion because the person who caught the ball did not score the TD because he fumbled the ball.

-Does the receiver get credit for a catch?

-Does the receiver get credit for TD?

-Does the fullback get get credit for the TD?

-Does fullback get rushing TD or receiving TD?

-Does fullback get credit for a carry, a reception, both or neither?

The reciever and the QB both get credited for a catch and completion and both are awarded the yardage to the point of the fumble, but neither get a TD. The running back gets credited for a TD but no carry and no rushing yards, nor is it counted as a "rushing" TD.

some info is correct, some incorrect.

You are correct in that the receiver and QB get yardage and completion, and the fullback gets a TD.

The really hard part of this is the stats given to the fullback and how the TD is worded in the box score....

it's the same as a defensive player recovering a fumble and returning it for a touchdown ;) except it's the fullback and not a defender

Here's how the play is scored:

Yes, the QB is credited with a TD pass and the FB is also credited with a TD, but the TD is a receiving TD, not a rushing one.

The QB is credited for the completion and a TD pass. The receiver is credited for the yards he picked up on the reception.

The FB who picked up the ball is credited with a 1 yard receiving TD. However, since he did got catch the pass, he does not get the reception. He does not get any rushing yard credit.

So to sum it up, the FB finished the game with 0 receptions for 1 yard and 1 TD. The QB gets a TD pass despite the fumble.

In the box score, the TD shows up as a 1 TD pass to the FB, however in the QB stats, he gets the combined yards from the receiver's catch + the 1 yard picked up by the fullback.
