Team A beats Team B by the score of 42 to 7. Team B does not score by making a td, field goal or safety. How do they get the 7 points?

scored 1 point on every Team A extra point attempt....EX: blocked and returned or fumble recovery and return....or INT and return

Ok here is another one. Randy Pascall caught a long pass on a critical fourth down play in the Texas vs Arkansas football game in 1969. This was the key play that enabled Texas to score and beat Arkansas in late fourth quarter 15 to 14. But who was the OB that passed the ball to him?:)

I thought that if you ran back an extra point attempt that you were awarded 2 points not 1. Does anyone know for sure?

Your right Cat 22, a return of a blocked extra point attempt counts the same as a safety. There was a college game about 3 or 4 years ago that a team actually lost in the final seconds of the game due to it.

I thought it was just one point. Does anyone know where the rule is for sure in high school football?

Anyway great memory Jasper!! It was James Street!

I wasn't even born in 69, but I think they were talking about that game during the college baseball world series. They were talking about how big a hero James was to the Texas fans. His son Houston is no slouch either.

It was a great game Jasper! You can still catch the game replayed on ESPN classics sometimes. Of course it isn't the same as actually seeing it live while it happens though.

This great player/coach was one of the junction boys. He coached the Aggies to a great season in 67 and beat his former coach in the Cotton Bowl. He later went to Alabama as head coach and in his first year (1992?) coached Alabama to the national championship. He was a great coach but unfortunately it seemed he or his staff could never recruit talent to keep the winning going. Still he was outstanding and has had a successful career in coaching. Who is he?

i hate to tell yall this but it is 1 point for blocking a PAT and returning it. Just talked to Joe Martin...THSCA Pres. He confirmed it. NCAA rules say that a safety on a PAT miss/block is worth 1 point.

the extra point kick is worth one point and if blocked it is worth point if returned

Not that this matters, but a couple of years ago, Cuero was in the final seconds against Sealy. Cuero was trying to kick an extra point to tie the game. It was blocked but went straight up in the air and a Sealy player tried to catch it in the end zone to down it. Instead he fumbled it and a Cuero player fell on it. Two points for Cuero. Game over.

I know when I was in High School, we blocked an extra point and one of our guys picked it up and ran it all the way back and we were given two points. Maybe that rule has changed since then.

A new one.

In H.S. football when a players knee touches the ground he is rulled down. So when the holder for the extra point kicker catches the ball with his knee on the ground he actually should be ruled down?

Okay fellas, let's get this straight. If the defense returns an intercepted pass, a fumble, a "lateral", a blocked kick, or whatever, all the way to the other end zone, the defense is awarded 2 points. All of those would normally be TD's if they happened on a regular down right? Yes. So in the case of an extra point, that "TD" is worth 2 points for the defense.

There is a possibility of getting a 1 point safety. Let's say the offense tried to kick an extra point and it is blocked. In the scarmble for the ball it keeps getting knocked further and further downfield such that eventually it ends up in the offense's own end zone and they fall on it. That would be a 1 point safety for the defense. During extra points, plays that would normally be a safety in the regular game are still a safety but only score 1 point.

Finally, re the holder having his knee down. There is an exception to the rule that says as long as there is a player positioned to make a kick or who has just simulated making a kick, the holder can have a knee (or 2) down and not be down.

Also for those of you speaking of college and high school I would like to inform you that in the state of Texas we use NCAA rules for high school football. There are a couple of UIL exceptions like kicking off from the 40, 12 min quarters, but those are the major differences that will be noticed by most fans. Currently Texas and Massachussets uses NCAA Rules while the rest of the states use National Federation of High School. (NFHS)
